Hi, It depends on what you find interesting. You might try a bookstore

like 20th century books to see which sell the best. Personally I've

enjoyed reading books by David Frawley and William Levacy, both

Americans. Also books by VK Choudhry and Indian professor. Everyone

has their personal favorites. You might even try Amazon books and look

online. Also I found Ronnie Dryer's book good too. Then there is Light

on Life by Robert Svoboda. that's good too. All Americans and easy

reads. Sally

Aileen,

I would also recommend the following books:

Ancient Hindu Astrology for the Modern Western Astrologer by James Braha (an

easy to understand introduction)\

Predictive Astrology of the Hindus by Pandit Gopesh Ojha (this is quite

available in the US)

Beneath a Vedic Sky by William Levacy

Vedic Astrology by Ronnie Gale Dreyer

Fundamentals of Vedic Astrology (a two volume set) by Dr. K.S. Charak

Introduction to Vedic Astrology by Howard Beckman

I would start here. Nothing against the books of Dr. Raman...

Aileen,

I would echo Devichandra's sentiments. The books that I mentioned I found

quite approachable when learning vedic. I also enjoyed David Frawley's

Astrology of the Seers, but found that James Braha's books gave me a very

strong analytical foundation. Every author has a different style and

approach...I just think James Braha gives the structure better; Bill Levacy

is good at details; Ronnie is good at approach, etc.I would see if I could

grab samples and see whether you like the writing style and if it works for

you.

Hello,

You can try Elements of Vedic Astrology by Dr. Charak. It has explained

fundamentals of astrology very well. For mathematics portion, try astronomy and

mathematical astrology by Deepak Kapoor. For children, Planets and Children by

K.N. Rao is very good. Yogas and astrology by Dr. Charak is also very useful.

Hope it will show you some path.

Dear ,

Namaste.

I prefer classics over modern writers in most of the cases. It is very

fundamental to have a thorough knowledge of classical Jyotish works, especially

those of Parashara and Jaimini. You can go to my website and read the

"Introduction" This gives a nice list of books to use, and there are some

further guidelines also. Pirimarily |I recommend books by Sanjayji and

Narasimha which are introduced in detail on www.sjvc.org but they may be too

hard for a newcomer to begin with. So start with Parasara and BV Raman, and the

go on to Sanjay's books.

Dear Aileena,

Namaste.

I also usually recommend classics because they have the most valuable

knowledge. However, another good book I came across is Practical Vedic

Astrology by GS Agarwal
