Guest guest
Rigid polls using poll options often leave a lot less options to really understand something hence I opted to use the discussion forum. I not only want to know if the scourge of dowry still exists, and how much and then at some point perhaps a few examples of instances where dowry was demanded vs dowry was declined could be examined using astrology. I hope I am not breaking any of your rules by posting on your forum! RR , "Tanvir" <ultimate wrote: > > Rohini Ji, Are you proposing to create a poll? Guest guest
sadly that is the tragedy behind many modern arranged marriages. You have my sympathies. Guest guest
Dear Ritu and Rohini Ji, Dowry is sadly still alive and kicking a lot of brides' families where it hurts. The dowry is demanded and given in 99% of all arranged marriages. In most of the weddings which take place in Delhi, you can find a beautifully decorated brand new car kept as a display for the guests. The groom arrives in a different vehicle at the marriage venue and leaves in this decorated car with his bride after the wedding ceremony is over. There are also rate-charts for different kinds of grooms. The most expensive one is an MBA from a leading management institute, then come the civil servants, and so on. Even an humble peon in a government job is worth one lakh rupees and a motorcycle. Regards, Ashutosh - ritu sharma ; rrgb Friday, 10 March, 2006 12:10 Re: POLL: Wow! Is dowry still around? Guest guest
Dear Ashutoshji, Yes, its too sad that dowry is still alive. One may appreciate that with the increase in level of education such devils would die, prabably it may but unfortunately only literacy level are increasing and not the education level (this is my opinion only). and sadly enough, it is hurting our mother nation in all aspects of her progress. Regarding dowry, whats even more frustrating is that it has even starting hurt the families of grooms also. The unsuspecting grooms and there who are against this tradition also find themselves implicated in false dowry cases. This is further working as deterent in killing this demon. Guest guest
dear friends to give an astrological touch to this prevailing practice in this part of the world, in the various classics under stree jataka chapters, they mentioned the dowry capacities of a girl and also how the inlaws harrass her for dowry e.g. by beating, by burning, by starving etc. this gives credence to the fact that this practice is in prevalence even in medieval days. some researchers also found the astrological combinations from which one can identify whether a girl would be killed by the inlaws for want of dowry. contrary to modern day goodie gentlemen and women who scream from their airconditioned drawing rooms loudly about dowry devils, i like the way ashutoshji referred that whether one believe or not, dowry is practiced in 99% arranged marriages. the modern positive language of dowry is "gifts". the bride's parents proudly declare in public that they wont send her girl with empty hands to start a newlife in a new house. from the parents' perspective, they feel ashamed if their girl walks away with empty hands and they are doing nothing to make her and her husband happy. so "gifts" (synonym for dowry?) are an accepted tradition. if members are willing to discuss astrological combinations for dowry and harrassment afterwards, i can share my little knowledge on this area. with best wishes and regards arjun , akhil jain <robby_jn wrote: > > Dear Ashutoshji, > > Yes, its too sad that dowry is still alive. Guest guest
Mr. Arjun, Common sense should readily be able to differentiate between a 'bridal gift from dowry. The former brings joy and sense of pride/accomplishment to the parents' hearts, while the latter makes their lives living hell and a lifetime of looking over one's shoulders for 'collection agents'! Guest guest
dear RR ji i spoke the truth as always. 99% of the "bridal gifts" bringing joy and sense of pride or accomplishment to the parents' hearts are given at the behest of demands made by the inlaws before the marriage is finalised. only at the time of filing a divorce suit and demanding alimony and maintenance, the bride's parents speak the truth as to how many gifts they doled including the million rupee worth brand new car which all would be branded to "dowry" from "gift". as per the Indian Law, all gifts which are given by the bride's parents with joy and happiness have to be listed down on a stamp paper, signed by both the parties and get that registered. then only they assume the "gift" shape according to Indian Law. this "common sense" is not practiced by a "common man". i have not yet seen a single person who used this "common sense" which is mandatory under the indian law. by the way, this is a non-astrological subject and in future i would not join in these threads except for astrological angle. since your query is addressed to me, i am answering this. with best wishes and regards arjun , "crystal pages" <rrgb wrote: > > Mr. Arjun, > > Common sense should readily be able to differentiate between > a 'bridal gift from dowry. Guest guest
dear sir, I fully agree that bridal gift gives immense joy and satisfaction. But many a times it gets exaggerated or at times it becomes a vulgar show of wealth and the purpose of marriage takes back seat. i recollect in one of the mails I read recently that today Horosope compatability is not given importance on the contrary matching of wealth or how much can be extracted from the girl's side is given more importance. Are we in a civilised society? For the last 2 decades u find dowry harrasement deaths increasing exponentially in our country ie India, a country which prides of its rich heritage. Astrologically the planetary configurations in the last 2 decades are pushing people to this extreme act where compassion or love is missing. lets hope the society change and create a harmonious living. with good wishes, k.gopu

Guest guest
I am not 'certified' to preach, and so I do not! I cannot control other people's wild imaginations, though :-) And I have a problem with this 'special' day concept. It goes beyond holi diwali and extends in some cultures to 'mother's day' father's day and so on. On the positive side, it is good to have at least one day for focusing on these good activities and so on, but why not the remaining 364/365 days also? Anyway, Happy Holi or whatever equivalent you celebrate... I do not want to keep you away from astrology, any longer ... Guest guest
dear ashutoshji i wish to elaborate what you said a bit further: >The groom arrives in a different vehicle at the marriage venue >and leaves in this decorated car with his bride after the >wedding ceremony is over. if we observe in realistic sense, the groom arrives the venue RIDING AN ANIMAL (horse) and soon after the wedding ceremony leaves the venue RIDING HIS "GIFT" A BRAND NEW CAR WORTH LAKHS OF RUPEES. truly just getting married is a rajayoga for such grooms. i have seen several parents of the groom are of the opinion that if their son is not working well or not focusing on business, if they get him married it would bring "good luck" as they perceive the planets of the bride "brighter" than the groom. perhaps this is the reason why the groom's parents always refer thier new daughter in law as "lakshmi" and publicly share their joy that "lakshmi" (goddess of wealth) has come to their home. with best wishes and regards arjun , "astrologerashutosh" <astrologerashutosh wrote: > > Dear Ritu and Rohini Ji, > > Dowry is sadly still alive and kicking a lot of brides' families where it hurts. Guest guest
Dear Friends, In the case of Kanyadaan leading to tieing the nuptial knot and making the relationship as a wedlock, and thw newly married girl coming under saas-bahu relation are the concepts requiring some platform and give/provide an astrological platform. Lot of material gets generated finding one or other planet to own responsibility for the social evils. with dwindling male and female birth ratios and girl childs getting aborted, married women prefering to opt for prenatal tests with doctors ever willing to slap huge charges, social structures are getting strained from time to time. Giving awards and rewards and ceremonies like godh bharai becoming status symbols, social obligation of arranged marriages with jyotishees belining for jataka poruttam the event of "Shaadi karogee" is loosing it's symbolic importance and only tax authorities getting activated. What is really shocking is the educated girl in so called metros and mega citites hailing from upper middle/lower middle stratas depend for their marraiges on mediators and parents lead to various propositions including gifts and dowries. what is probably essential to be assessed is the kind of slush that is floated in marraige buearus and kalyan vediacas including bright and well illuminated kalyana mandapams. Parents have a sympathy for their daughters going to settle inlaws house.Due to this they think that her inlaws have to be pleased for every festival/function taking place in her house. This symapathy,respect/regard to the son in lawsand their brothers and sisters.parents in laws gets termed as dowry very loosely.when two parties agree to get related to each other by way of wedding lock and settle down peacefully no body evinces any interest as in 70-85%marriages that get performed almost year to year basis. with media now becoming a center of attraction and many people willing to blow up these events the privacy of the families getting invaded. The issue of dowry:Kanyadaan no doubt will have lot many to if not from astrological perspective, gets the due from sociological angle. Ofcourse,we in the group too also our views to either strengthenin terms of the 7th house,7th lord, upa pada and dara karak. While doing so Iam afraid the weak links in two horoscopes that come out mainly from the ascendant and lagna gets neglected. Probably our system that is standing often to the test of the time is not bad.only issue that gets blown up out of proportions are social contexts due to varied interests and less interest of two individuals as they prefer to remain anonymous,wow--dowry gains lot of importance. krishnan panditarjun2004 <panditarjun2004 wrote: Dear RR ji nice to note good words from you. as you rightly observed may be i am missing your points or you are missing my points. anyway i remember your preaching few months ago in the group about various gaps in cyber reality and how we shall live with them positively. with the festival of colours three days away and the playful spirit witnessed by all members including you, i hope we all can together make this group a wonderful experience to all members. happy festival of colours to all in advance as several people are taking leave on monday to go to their hometowns to play holi and me to rishikesh for poornima gangasnan. with best wishes and regards arjun , "crystal pages" <rrgb wrote: > > I am sorry to observe that you are missing the point I was trying to > make in my posting to which you replied. > > This is a public board, anything posted here can be responded to > freely, so please do not feel you have to remain restricted to > responding only to postings that are specifically addressed to you > :-) > > RR > > > , "panditarjun2004" > <panditarjun2004@> wrote: > > > > dear RR ji > > > > i spoke the truth as always. 99% of the "bridal gifts" bringing > joy > > and sense of pride or accomplishment to the parents' hearts are > > given at the behest of demands made by the inlaws before the > > marriage is finalised. only at the time of filing a divorce suit > > and demanding alimony and maintenance, the bride's parents speak > the > > truth as to how many gifts they doled including the million rupee > > worth brand new car which all would be branded to "dowry" > > from "gift". as per the Indian Law, all gifts which are given by > > the bride's parents with joy and happiness have to be listed down > on > > a stamp paper, signed by both the parties and get that > registered. > > then only they assume the "gift" shape according to Indian Law. > > this "common sense" is not practiced by a "common man". i have > not > > yet seen a single person who used this "common sense" which is > > mandatory under the indian law. > > > > by the way, this is a non-astrological subject and in future i > would > > not join in these threads except for astrological angle. since > your > > query is addressed to me, i am answering this. > > > > with best wishes and regards > > arjun > > , "crystal pages" <rrgb@> > > wrote: > > > > > > Mr. Arjun, > > > > > > Common sense should readily be able to differentiate between > > > a 'bridal gift from dowry. Guest guest
dear krishnan ji as you rightly observed the sociological changes especially in urban metros are shocking. in the last few years i observed in delhi that several parents deliberatly do not want their daughters get married as she is working and giving her salary to her parents. after having her salary for more than five years, the girl gets fed up and looks a boy on her own (in 99% cases the boy is of of different state or lanugage) and their marriage takes place without even one rupee gift much to the advantage of the girl's parents. i have seen at least hundred such cases where the girls confided that this is the reality. from these experiences, if the girl waits for her marriage to happen as per her stars, she would never get married. also if she waits for her parents to bring a groom, that also gets delayed. if she looks for a match on her own especially with a touch of love, she not only avoids dowry but also make her money minded parents happy. i personally believe that in love marriages, astrologers have little or no role. since many astrologers attribute only planets for a girl's delay in getting married, i remember these parents playing a major role in getting their daughter's marriage delayed. if i found one hundrd such bad parents there are one thousand good parents also. so i am not generalising anything. with best wishes and regards arjun , vattem krishnan <bursar_99 wrote: > > Dear Friends, > In the case of Kanyadaan leading to tieing the nuptial knot and making the Guest guest
Dear Sastry ji, In the eyes of law "dowry"a loose term in english is bad and responsibility goes with giving and accepatnce.Probably such issue not told/ informed loudly by bothe givers and takers receives attention only the relationship fails for one or other reason.Such an issue has been debated a lot and certainly if it benifits atleast very few members, seeking advice are independent enough to take a stand and put their foot down, all of us certainly will be happy.what however I have seen members approach this forum only when they aere apprehended and detained under law.In such cases this kind of airing views and finding fault with tradition, custom or otherwise of rewaaj of little consequence. Even in such cases marraiges have ceratinly taken place and firmed with the intervention of jyotishees is only.perhaps we may have to also the wedding from parents point of view of dulha and dulhan to find how far their kith after this tie up will have a long happy wedded life. But our seers in sastras probably never felt the need though they have at several placed emphsised the importance papakartari yoga of 7th house of the native apart from afflictions of 7th house to describe nature of spouse, their comforts, their yogas relating to child etc. Infact in the course of our discussions, from the point of view of research we must have dealt upon marriage related issues and even differed from classical connotations.Never we deliberated from the poit of view of culture, practices and social evils which perhaps as an issue of principle/ morality could have become more pronounced for young people eager to get married .Atleast some benifit of these different views could have emboldened them how money related relatioship possibly become sour and lead to some kind of harassment in their personal life. I contend that responsibility arising out of such relationships whether good or bad have to be owned. These relations might have come up through personal choice, arranged by some one or identified through some other source. Infact I have no surprise if cases have of separation have been settled through compensation/award by court after protracted legal battles. These young minds boy or girl who were not firm and independent after undergoing lot of emberassment and stress look very disappointed and get also scared of the whole issue. Do you really able to suggest something to these prospective brides and bridegrooms to be cautious to avoid such contexts in their personal lives krishnan krishnan panditarjun2004 <panditarjun2004 their daughters get married as she is working and giving her salary to her parents. after having her salary for more than five years, the girl gets fed up and looks a boy on her own (in 99% cases the boy is of of different state or lanugage) and their marriage takes place without even one rupee gift much to the advantage of the girl's parents. i have seen at least hundred such cases where the girls confided that this is the reality. from these experiences, if the girl waits for her marriage to happen as per her stars, she would never get married. also if she waits for her parents to bring a groom, that also gets delayed. if she looks for a match on her own especially with a touch of love, she not only avoids dowry but also make her money minded parents happy. i personally believe that in love marriages, astrologers have little or no role. since many astrologers attribute only planets for a girl's delay in getting married, i remember these parents playing a major role in getting their daughter's marriage delayed. if i found one hundrd such bad parents there are one thousand good parents also. so i am not generalising anything. with best wishes and regards arjun , vattem Guest guest
dear krishnan ji in love marriages, the boy and girl feels that their future is in their own hands and hence they alone are responsible for their future. in the modern world, each native has the freedom and independence to take his or her own decisions and no one system suits all. however, i personally believe that if each partner strives to make the other happy and feel happy by seeing his/her partner happy, all marriages would last long till their last breath. with best wishes and regards arjun , vattem krishnan Guest guest
Sir, Compatibilities if found (between two optees of wdlock)and social backgrounds if accommodate for choices and independence, there may not be any issue to put our collective wisdom.Probably in cyberworld, realities take back seat.with our mixed views away from social back ground,Iam afraid that our contributions on such issues may be of very little consequence except we quench our thirst by airing personal views. If polls serve this purpose and we as participants are happy for the time being that we did exercise the little/token freedom positively to to the raging topics. may be through our little known experience and falvour in jyotish let's advise that if marraige is getting delayed/postponed not much too feel tense than rushing to kalayana mandapam and making saat phere only to feel remorse at a later stage.may be, we strive to explain to the two optees that the life propose to be made is complimentary and contributory. All happiness and comforts comes only through experiences. krishnan panditarjun2004 <panditarjun2004 wrote: dear krishnan ji in love marriages, the debated a lot and certainly if it benifits atleast very few members, seeking advice are independent enough to take a stand and put their foot down, all of us certainly will be happy.what however I have
