SOME OPINIONS ABOUT PROF. DR. SATYA VRAT SHASTRI

"Dr. Satya Vrat Shastri is one of those few scholars of Sanskrit in

the country who have made a mark in both the widely different fields

of critical scholarship and creative composition. His literary work

consists of some of the most delightful poems, dissertations on some

of the toughest problems of Indology, a humorous skit and a

translation from English into Hindi. It is the combination in him of

the poet and the critic, the playwright and the translator, the

interpreter of the old tradition and the original thinker, that marks

him out as one of the most remarkable personalities in the contemporary

Sanskrit field." --- Indian Literature, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi,

Vol. XII, No. 3, 1969.

---While at college one of Dr. Satya Vrat Shastri's teachers,Prof.

K.L.Gautam, said the above of Dr.Satya Vrat Shastri:"He has been his

teachers' pride. The paper qualifications and the degrees of the

University he has attained is but a small measure of his true worth.

He is a stabilized mind, conscious of the great heights a man is heir

to in real life"

---While at the University, another of his teachers, Dr.Suryakanta

observed :"Satya Vrat Shastri's range of thought is wide and his

discernment for what is right and wrong instinctive. His knowledge of

Sanskrit is deep".

--- Dr.Siddheshwar Varma, the eminent linguist, once said of

him:"Dr.Satya Vrat Shastri has acquired the potentialities for

advancing the most profound aspects of Sanskrit. He has unusual

abilities."

--- Dr.Suniti Kumar Chatterji, another linguist and Indologist (in

theForeword to Dr.Satya Vrat Shastri's The Ramayana - A Linguistic

Study") observed of Dr.Satya Vrat Shastri : `Dr.Satya Vrat Shastri is

one of our younger scholars who has already distinguished himself by

his researches in different branches of ancient Indian lore. I have

been very favourably impressed by his versatility as well as depth. He

is a finished scholar of Sanskrit verse."

--- Reviewing Dr.Satya Vrat Shastri's poetry Dr.K.Krishnamoorthy,the

eminentcritic, remarked: "Dr.Satya Vrat Shastri's limpid flow of the

verse is unparalleled today. It is a case of inborn genius coupled with

complete learning - Pratibha competing with Vyutpatti."

"In making any assessment of Dr.Satya Vrat's achievement as a

modern poet, one feels the difficulty of avoiding superlatives. It goes

without saying that he has the gift of a great poet, and has qualified

himself as a poet of universal nature. Who knows that one day in

future both eastern and western critics my rank him as one of the

greatest poets of the World? --- Journal of the Asiatic Society,

Calcutta, Volume XXXV, No.3, 1993

"When trying to describe the seemingly limitless academic qualities

and contributions to Sanskrit literature of Prof. Dr. Satya Vrat

Shastri, suffice it to say that he is the most highly decorated

Sanskrit scholar alive today." ---R. S. Brown, GIA, PG. Dec. 2000
