Guest guest
dear friends in medieval and olden days, only brahmins used to be the priests who used to live in brahminical way and any astrologer could easily predict that jupiter is exalted in all their charts. kings used to give special living areas dedicated for such brahmins and those brahmins were well taken care of. unfortunately, due to less patronage for the services from brahmins, they have started working in teaching line. some state governments even enacted laws to appoint non-brahmin priests and recently the uttar pradesh chief minister offered to dole out reservation in jobs even for brahmins. slowly several non-brahmins have started doing all the servcies (including astrology and priests performing rituals) with a single objective of earning money for their livelihood. this started corruption in the holy services. since the priest commands respect and people touch their feet to take blessings besides giving dakshina, i have seen several illiterate uneducated people in delhi getting lured into this profession not only to earn money but also name and fame. as mentioned in vedas, performing rituals is not an ordinary job of any priest and it needs a specialist who is trained in those and is well versed with all shastras. as on date less than 10% of the practicing priests have such calibre. as krishnan ji rightly observed, the best way to find a right priest is to go to an old established temple in your city and request the priest (preferably the oldest person) to either offer his services or recommend a highly learnt and calibre priest. with best wishes arjun vattem krishnan <bursar_99 wrote: Dear Sri Tanuku; The issues raised by you are as under: it is difficult to find a person who does an authentic japa for us, because of commercialization. Yet either because of our lack of knowledge, or time, we end up relying on them for japas and homams Finding a right priest for our regular and special needs is difficult.Infact it is the case with any profession. There are qualified and non qualified, experienced and in experienced priest. In all such cases probably it is also matter of faith.Best thing is to rely on established temples where on some occassions and even regularly carry out these poojas,So what is important is chitta suddhi and belief in the person performing such poojas. I have seen once priests performing japa ,and in between they were chitchatting or having tea breaks, to me it looked pretty unholy, as I felt when we are invoking shiva or forthat matter any god or any planet, our mind has to be single minded in concentrating on god/ godess or planet. The selction of priest is normally made on the basis of reputation too.A priest who is busy definetely is one performs with single mind and may be he also charges with good amount.Normally affording capacity too matters. Infact for Astrological purposes the remedies are not really difficult but then have some niyams(paddhatii)which are to be followed and observed. Also require different types of suddhi such as chitta suddhi, deha suddhi and vatavarana siddhi.once all these are taken care, the fruits of the prayers normally accrues.stronger the desire to seek relief and intensity of request better will be results. krishnan krishna tanuku <ktanuku wrote: Dear respected members, Life is like a ride on a roller coaster, one day, we are on the top of the wheel, and the other day, we could be at the bottom of the wheel, and a lot of us would have experienced this, as it is the reality of life. Since we cannot escape the rough ride at times, it is but natural to take respite from pujas, homas, japas and other and remedies. It seems relatively easy to find out what remedies to be done these days, than perform remedies like japas and homas. Now the difficult dilemma is, incase of Doctors and engineers / lawyers their degrees and qualifications are well displayed, so it is rather easy to choose the right person for the services. But unfortunately, priests don't display such degrees, and may get offended if someone asks them. We do not have enough depth of knowledge to assess them, neither we have the depth of knowledge to perform proper rituals ourselves (incase of difficult japas or homas), so we have to trust the priest to perform them for us. Here comes the difficult part in this Kaliyug , it is difficult to find a person who does an authentic japa for us, because of commercialization. Yet either because of our lack of knowledge, or time, we end up relying on them for japas and homams. I have seen once priests performing japa ,and in between they were chit chatting or having tea breaks, to me it looked pretty unholy, as I felt when we are invoking shiva or for that matter any god or any planet, our mind has to be single minded in concentrating on god/ godess or planet. Eventhough the priests say, "since you have entrusted the job to us, if we do the japa wrong, we get the dosham for it" - I don't know if that is the right logic to follow either, as the primary purpose of japa is to plead for the grace of the god or planet for us, but not to take some one along with you to hell. When some one is pleading with god/planet, if their dristi is some where, how much attention is he going to get from GOD? With all the respect to all the learned and respectful community of priests, this is my humble concern, how do people find the best priest? Where do you find them? And dear members, those who got the respite from remedies, how did you manage to perform the right remedies in a right way? Will you be all kind enough to share your successful way of performing japas /homas/ yantras and other remedies, for the benefit of every reader in these groups. A lot of people may get the advise of right remedy, but a remedy not done properly may not give them the results they are looking for. Thank you all Music Unlimited Access over 1 million songs. Guest guest
Dear All, Finding a good person in the society is a very difficult task. In religious activties, it is almost impossible to say who is GOOD or RIGHT, because there are equally many who disagree! Finding a GURU in a mentor, a guide, an advisor, a priest is equally or much more difficult task and that is why GURU is given the status equal to the TRINITY of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. As rightly observed by many, the profession of a purohita(purasya hitArthe sthitah = wellwisher of the city) has been deteriorating from long back. I remember words of s'ankarAcArya in describing 'jobs of sin collection': ".....Paurohityam rajani caritam......" which clearly groups 'paurohitya' or priesthood to be a job capable of accumulating sin on par with 'rajani caritam' or 'night work' used to indicate 'work of a thief'. Finding a real and right GURU or priest or advisor is an entity ruled by 9th house of the native concerned and his/her level of karma. So one must not give up the search for the right person and if the person found this time is not the most perfect, it is not the fault of the finder! "yatne kr.te yadi na sidhyati, ko-tra doS.ah.?" Guest guest
Dear KAD ji, You have rightly brought out the present status of paurohityam. This high time well educated persons and having regard to the service of a brahmin.something could be done to avoid deterioration and erosion of values.I wish this is an area which requires a volunatary service so as to maintain the traditions, customs and performane of rituals. Somehow Iam still inclined to say that to believe in a person and perform in those circumstances is best way to respect the faiths than to denigarate the activities. we do not know how the profession is still controlled by factors like supply and demand. Since I was associated with a reputed Institution in the country known for educating and propagating the importance of karma kand,I would end by saying, the field is getting neglected and survival of the fittest is no exception here. krishnan kadrudra <kadrudra wrote: Dear All, Finding a good person in the society is a very difficult task. Guest guest
Kerala is a place where one still finds good priests. The Nambudiris still follow their karmas even to date and continue as priests in many temples. Many Brahmins have left the place and spread over the country in different jobs. And hence quality priests are also on the decline. This is where the others come in. --- <kadrudra wrote: > Dear All, > > Finding a good person in the society is a very difficult task. > In religious activties, it is almost impossible to say who is > GOOD or RIGHT, because there are equally many who disagree! > Finding a GURU in a mentor, a guide, an advisor, a priest is > equally or much more difficult task and that is why GURU is > given the status equal to the TRINITY of Brahma, Vishnu and > Maheshwara. Guest guest
Dear members, I can say from my personal experience that My Guruji Pandit. R.DAKSHINAMOORTHI is a pandit of a high calibre. He is highly educated (He has held a Group-A Gazetted post in Indian Coast Guard, was a topper throughout his educational career, excelled in Medical Transcription as a potential transcriptionist, but still chose to continue his profession as astrology and remedial measures). He leads an orthodox lifestyle and does japas at 4 twilights (usually people do chants thrice, and tantriks do it at night only; but Guruji does both! He does meditation and special chants at 6-00 a.m., 12 noon, 6-00 p.m., and midnight!). He maintains a traditional tuft of hair (long hair tied as a knot at the top of the head - kudumi as they call it in tamil nadu!)when even many priests of temples shy from sporting such a traditional look. He is well-versed in mantra- shastra, but does not misuse it at all. Infact, he refrained from using his mantric powers even when he faced a critical situation in his own personal life last year. He said it is better to accept karmic consequences and wait for God's mercy rather than roughshoding karma with mantrik powers! However, when it comes to helping others, Guruji has been known to take even undue risks. I can say with a grateful heart that I am what I am today only by Guruji's Grace. I was a victim of Black magic prayog which nearly ruined my life... Guruji's contact helped me to tide over it though Guruji himself faced a great risk in fighting the yakshini (You may think it is far fetched, but if you had experienced my terrible experiences you would know that I am not hallucinating and what I say is the absolute truth). For all your remedies try to contact Gurji. I am afraid that his rates may seem to be a little on the higher side for people not used to getting remedies done by an expert. However, for the benefit of the common man, Guruji has special mass-worship programs in which he conducts homams on special occasions so that all can participate by contributing a reasonable amount (as little as Rs.150/- for a mass worship homam). Incidentally, he is organizing Shri. Dattatreya homam and karthaveeryarjuna homam on the occasion of Dattatreya Jayanthi on Dec 15, 2005. I have posted about this homam on various web forums. Guest guest
may be moderators to take note of all these postings.we can only say that good priests are there and their efforts to retain value of the old systems and traditions need to be lauded. when we loof for a proper priest it is his acceptability as a priest that matters in providing his services rather than his capabilities. krishnan Anil Gogate <anil_gogate wrote: Moderators !
