Guest guest
It is a common practice and well-known that many western/tropical astrology sources use either the noon or midnight charts for individuals whose birthtime are not known, though the date might be known. Anytime one sees a noon or midnight birthtime -- use extra caution. In fact to some extent such caution may be prudently extended to birthtimes which are reported on the hour or half-hour by nativities seeking quickie readings (translation: on jyotish newsgroups, particularly when you see the same request simultaneously on more than one site at the same time. It is not that these people are trying to trick but are simply desperate at best). No serious research or proof must be tied to such data unless absolutely certain. The time spent in questioning the quality of data is critical for most astrologers particularly those that must rely on techniques and hence on accurate data. Blessed are those who don't even need charts or data, like some of the sages we hear about, such as Karve Maharaj from Poona/Bombay who reportedly looks at you and tells you what your ascendant and degree is. Some have used these data to make a strong case for th veracity of Lahiri ayanamsha based on Karveji's psychically generated data described thus.
