7 and 1/2 , or 10 , or even 12.5 years of Shani? (for David)

We cannot quote you the textbook answer to your question. But we can

give you a practical explanation for your question. Specifically, in

vedic astrology, Saturn is considered to be the most malefic graha in

the zodiac (perhaps because it is the slowest planet, it is blamed

for most of the ills of mankind!). The seers have observed several

areas in the chart where Saturn becomes malefic. As you have

mentioned, these include sade sati, ashtami shani, and kantaka

shani. These terms describe a specific quality or attribute of

Saturn in the birth kundali.

Although your observation is correct, one cannot change the terms as

defined by the seers and as practiced in the past. As such, one

should not include the aspect of Saturn to increase the time period

of sade sati. If it were, Saturn would be blamed for more ills in

the birth chart which would be more disproportionate in comparison to

the other planets.

John R.

Namaste John R.,

Thanks very much for your reply. I figured as much, but I guess I was mainly

wondering if

the 3rd house aspect of Shani would give the native a preview of the potential

rocky waters

ahead for them in Sade Sati. Perhaps the proof for that hypothesis would be in

the living of

it and the observance of many charts of natives who were going or had gone

through that

period. As has been said on the lists many times, "no short cuts in astrology."

Thanks

again for shedding a little light.

Sincerely,

David
