None of the rituals, remedies or psychological treatment worked and the girl came to a stage of either committing suicide or go for psycho surgery. Her Dettol usage went to 12 liters per day which started giving severe skin problems. Even the eminent Psycho surgeons were reluctant to take risk of psycho surgery as changes of death , paralysis or damage to other intellectual functions were high. Also this surgery is very very expensive and had to be done outside India. As a last resort, we have admitted her in a half way nursing home in my city under guidance of panel of psychiatrists , gynecologists and counselors. This center is run by a counselor trained in NIMHANS Bangalore and have successfully treated refractory cases like one above. Doctors are trying to change her OCD based on some different techniques in Cognitive and Behavior Therapy and lot of sympathy and care. As she is in my city I am able to spend time doing counseling in personal visits. She is showing great signs of improvement and her dettol usage has come to 1 liter per day, she may come out of problem fully in days to come. We are also in touch with Doctors from USA and they are also quite happy with the improvements. Or does she try to wash her hands at the earliest possible moment? How do you say the rituals and remedies did not work? It is my view the rituals and remedies do not always work in the way we usually assume they will. A small example: A person wanted to end his enemy. After chanting a particular mantra... his enemy did not die but his enmity did. How do you know that the said remedies and rituals did not bring the said group of doctors or create situations for correctional therapy or lowered the girl's resistance to therapy or brought into focus the correct correctional therapy to be used?
