With curious interest I have been reading on this topic of whether or not fate

is unchangeable or whether or not Jyotish can alter fate and to what degree.

I am not a Jyotishi, but I am a person who understand the Value of Vedic

everything. To know possess Vedic knowledge and skill is to understand the

architecture of the universe, and of this I admit I am quite, quite ignorant,

but I do know this:

When Arjuna finishes performing his duty and dismounts his chariot, the chariot

falls apart, something that makes Arjuna wonder. The answer from Krishna is that

the chariot had been protected by His divine powers, and that otherwise it would

have been destroyed long before it had served its purpose.

Well, this beautiful and emotionally moving part of the Gita exemplifies the

following: humans have both: a vehicles that is fallible, vulnerable, and

therefore destructible; but, at the same time, humans have the ability to attain

God's grace.

A human who lives a life disconected from the Divine, pursuing the shodows of

wordly pleasures and the pursuits of vanity of ego, will either wander

helplessly through a laberinth without ever finding salvation, or will incur so

much bad karma from living a lowly life that then there will be lives of

seemingly unexplainable suffering, which Jyotishis can look into. A Jyotishi can

say, it is aparent you have been disrespectful of the law, abused drugs or

drink, been violent, lazy, etc. from a chart. And here lies the issue of fate,

which brins to the second part of human nature, and that is that it is

inherently divine. A human is able to align his or herself with God, and through

sincerity of worship, deeds, and effort attain God's grace. Once this is done,

then God intervenes for such an individual, and the karmic debts a person has

can be, in the language of the tax collector, be "written off." This is how

Arjuna is able to live long enough to perform right action even if

heavenly weapons are used against him. So, the ultimate goal for an individual

is to find God. Now, some find God through honoring their parents, others

through worship while yet others do so through ritual (tapas, sadhana, etc.),

intellectual development, charity, etc. But the goal is God, God first. He who

finds God needs not fear bad karma, and that bad karma will only linger long

enough until the person understands that sinning isn't helpful. This is why I

love Jyotish and would some day like to learn it. But in the mean time, I bow to

those who use it to help others. They are gurus because the truly dispel

darkness with the light of Jyotish. So please, don't bebate whether or not fate

and destiny can be undone. God can do anything. The real question is how

successful can the common person be at attaining God's grace. I strongly believe

that this what should be said to one seeking solace from you learned beings. And

while I don't presume to tell those better that I am how to

perform their masterful craft/science, I would like to entertain you with a

poem you might have already read, written by Emerson, about God. It has always

inspired me and has always made me wonder when the rest of humanity will reach

the same conclusion. Yes, we are in Kali Yuga, but that is only the more reason

to wax spiritual, and to safeguard the sacred knowledge that has been handed

down by beings enlightneded. The poem without the title, goes like this:

Brahma

If the red slayer think he slays,

Or if the slain think he is slain,

They know not well the subtle ways

I keep, and pass, and turn again.

Far or forgot to me is near;

Shadow and sunlight are the same;

The vanished gods to me appear;

And one to me are shame and fame.

They recon ill who leave me out;

When me they fly, I am the wings;

I am the doubter and the doubt,

I am the hymn the Brahmin sings.

The strong gods pine for my abode,

And pine in vain the sacred Seven;

But thou, meek lover of the good!

Find me, and turn thy back on heaven.
