The uranium content at the beach there would be more of a cause of cancer than the diet at the ashram. ----- Original ::Ah, the black sand of Kerala. Oddly the residents seem to have an immunity to it, even though science does not understand how one can have immunity to radiation. Suffice it to say, the black sand is a sore issue there and here on this forum. It is the most radioactive, inhabited place on the planet. Great place for an ashram, indeed. Riddle me that. Of course, I don't know this for sure. And is the uranium content that bad, and if one wasn't at the beach per se, would it affect them? Is this just naturally occurring uranium? Prasadini ::I think you are right about Nirmalamrita. Don't forget, when sand was needed to fill in the bog (in late eightees when I was there), She insisted on using the black sand, because it was free. The natives may have some form of immunity, but the Westerners surely don't. How bad is it? It's the most highly radioactive place on the Earth. No civilized country would even let people live there. Google for it and learn. Even living in the proximity of the ashram to the coast is significant. Avram Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! Terms of Service. I spoke with a friend who just returned from Amritapuri. He said that Swami P (Nealu) has lymphoma. ::Of what and where, what stage, how aggressive? I think he said that Ron is at AIMS - he didn't say with what. Nealu has been sick (not with cancer) since before he met Mother, long, long ago. ::That was with back pain, probably brought on by the climate in Tamil Nadu. Remember, She said She could take away his illness, but then he couldn't be realized in this lifetime and he would have to come back and it would be worse. Sri Ramakrishna died of cancer also. I'm sure there are others on the list more knowledgeable than this child, but there is something about fats causing adequate cholesterol, which help make hormones, which help guard against cancer. There is a relationship between low cholesterol and cancer. Now the medical establishment has drastically lowered the norms, so what was normal is now high normal. Biochemistry is beyond this mind. ::check out Life Extension protocols. They recommend not too high, too low, right fats. Cancer is such a large topic and very depressing when you get into it. I think the ashram diet of rice is a disaster for largely overweight Westerners with metabolic syndrome, which many don't recognize. I favor a relatively low carb diet. Carbs are not needed to live, or, at best, only at low levels. I favor a pre-agricultural diet, based on research and my needs, not necessarily for everyone. I know India has great problems with diabetes; look at Mother. For some reason even leafy greens are not available: why? Does it not grow in that climate? Or, they have to use the land for more caloric food? Someone said they serve cake at the ashram? What? When did this start? Can't imagine cake being served, on a regular basis there. Amma like tasteless food, so this startles me. The cheese in India: what's up with that? It comes in cans! Weird. Face it, being at the ashram may not be the best thing for your health, not to mention that you are near the equator and the UV goes through the clouds. To each their own. Avram Jai Ma! Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Avram I don't know any of the details of Swami P's illness. His early illness was more than his back. In his first book he talks about how sick he was and how he went to see Mother (I think that's one reason he met Her). In the book he talks about coming to the US and seeking medical help to no avail. To tell you the truth I am not remembering the details, but know he was sick for a long time, not just his back. I do feel a little weird talking about this in a public forum, but he did write about it and it is pretty well known. Had no idea the sands of Kerala are so radioactive. The whole thing is very interesting. Jai Ma! Prasadini sprose1 (AT) aol (DOT) com wrote: > In a message dated 5/12/2006 11:40:22 P.M.
