I chant rudram chamakam.

I have heard that you can chat rudram 11 times followed by chamakam.

Is that true? what is the benefit?

Also is it possible to chant rudram by itself? Is there a number (5,

7, 11) which is used for reciting?

thanks.

regards,

Ketan

Hi Ketan,

i heard that chanting or listening of rudram and chamakam with its

swara and rhythm along with pancha suktam..is very good for the self

and for the family. I understand one time recitation itself is

sufficient as that alone takes 45 minutes....now if you have time you

can carry on 11 times....

i heard that in olden days, the trikala sandhya vandana prayers

performed by brahmins contained elaborate procedures including the

above ones.

In case anyone wants to learn the pronunciations or just listen to

the chants, they are available on the Satya Sai Veda Prasthanam site

at

http://www.vedamu.org/Media/audio/chanting.asp

(You can buy the CDs from here also. In addition to the Rudra Namakam

and Chamakam, there are a variety of other chants on this site.)

or at

http://www.vedamantram.com/

(Again, a variety of beautiful chants ...)

Ketan, I don't think the Namakam is recited by itself, without beign

followed by the Chamakam. The Namakam is a beautiful expression of

love, awe and devotion to the wonderful Lord, and the Chamakam

details the various aspects of life that are blessed by His kindness.

Portions of the Namakam ARE recited seperately, as shorter mantras

and prayers, but that is no longer referred to as the Rudram. The

famous Maha Mrutyunjaya Mantram is part of the Namakam, as is the

popular "Eesana sarva vidyanam" prayer.

Sincerely,

Sreelatha
