Guest guest
Respected Guruji's and learned members, I wanted to find out about the powerful mrityunjaya mantra. Who can recite it? Can women recite it? Is there a strict code on who and when one can recite it. I am asking these questions because I wanted to find out if I(as a daughter) can recite it for the well being and health of my parents? thanks, vani

Guest guest
All humans can recite mrityunjya mantra. There is no strict code on the same. You can recite it for your parents well being. Mritunjya mantra can be recited without consideration to the time or place. It can be done anytime and anywhere. The important thing is: think of Lord Shiva in your mind and keep it focussed on his image while you chant this mantra. Secondly, close your eyes and be away from disturbances. Chant this mantra preferably, with a Rudraksha Mala. It should be done with utmost faith. It confers a full life, free from disease and accidents. This is only a very mundane use of the Japa. This japa has the power to reveal the Truth or Reality. The maya holding you from within loosen its grip. It confers peace even in the seemingly "most difficult" circumstances. Guest guest
Dear friend I am not a master or authority in Mantrya. However as per my personal experiences, learning the Mantra by taking initiation of 'Diksha" from a trained person is better. As your teacher will guide you in getting the proper method like Rishi(the discover of the Mantra, Chhanda(Poetic Meter), and Kara Nyasa and Anga Nyasa, the meaning of the Mantra to be meditated upon during recitation, the most beneficial time of recitation etc. However, you can recite the "Mahamrityunjaya Strotram" with devotion and faith. With regards, M. Tripathy

Urvarukamiva bhandhanat mrutyhor mukshiya ma amritat Om' ----------------------- Meaning: I worship the three eyed lord Shiva, who is full of fragrance and who nourishes everybody with health and vitality. May he liberate me from Death and not from immortality: Just as the same way a pumpkin is severed from it's bondage from the creeper. Guest guest
"Trayambkam" As far as i have understood Tri= three Amba/amb= mother => one with three mothers... does not that mean one of three mothers? I have discussed it with people with deep knowledge of history and religion and sanskrit who sit together to discuss meaning of shastras and hinduism and like and thats wut i got. I request all the learned people here to clear my confusion , A Singhal <anjusinghalus> wrote: > 'Om triayambakam yaja mahe sugandhim pusthi vardhanam. > Urvarukamiva bhandhanat mrutyhor mukshiya ma amritat Om' > > ----------------------- > Meaning: I worship the three eyed lord Shiva, who is full of fragrance and who nourishes everybody with health and vitality. Guest guest
Dear Dhruv, This is how I split the words and understand. Thraya + Ambaka: Thraya means three and Ambaka means eyes. AmB means sound. So Thrayambaka could mean the three sounds of OM. Ambakam means father. So Thrayambaka could mean lord of three worlds. Samskrita words have many meanings and the interpretation of mantras is left to the reader's understanding/imagination. As far as my knowledge goes, Ambaa (deerga) is used for mother. Your confusion could be one created by God, and it would be good to carry on more research. You could probably end up giving a new idea to the world by deciphering the hidden/secret meaning of this mantra.
