2. A Message From Mercury

By Michael Laughrin (Michael)

[As you may know, I can talk to the planets. Mercury wants me to

give you this message. - Michael]

Mercury says:

You see, the play's the thing. The game, the sport, the fun. Let's

do it! Whether it is sex, or games or sports or business or word

games, we've got to do, do, do.

I love to talk, to communicate, to shmooze. That is why I rule

phones, computers, the Internet, cleverness. I am the most youthful

of planets (not counting little children). If you have a strong

Mercury in your chart, you will always seem more youthful than your

years.

You Americans are too stodgy in your business practices. No fixed

prices! Negotiate, bargain: show me yours and I'll show you mine.

Mercury, the Roman god, was the messenger of the gods. Fleet of

foot and buzz, buzz, buzz.

I pretty much like the same things as my sister Venus -- flowers,

sex, poetry, dancing, music -- but for different reasons. I like

arranging flowers; also communicating with the flowers devas. I

like the play of poetry, rather than just the beauty. Brownian

motion: that would apply to me. I rule cleverness of speech, mind

and hands. So therefore I rule instrumental music. The fingers

dance!

Yes, I am smart. And yes, I do become bored rather quickly. You

mean you're telling me that same old story again? I like fresh,

new, fun stuff (Gemini). Whatever someone is clever at, whatever

they are quick at, that I like. I like the sport of the athlete,

the verbal play of the businessman, the improvisation of the dancer

or musician, the inventiveness of sex.

I like people who are proficient in at least two things: two

languages (or more), two careers, two skills, two lovers, two

stories (I like creative lying), two types of thinking, mimicry,

guerilla theatre (which is improvised on the spot), two different

musical instruments. If two things are good, three are great and

ten are d-d-Divine!

But, even though I am clever, I am not deep (How boring!). I like

sports, but the play -- not the meanness or the aggressiveness. I

like sex but not necessarily love (although the game of love is

great because they are all sooooo serious!) I will make fun of you

and I hope that you will make fun of me back.

Of course I am humor, I am silliness, I cannot be tied down. Don't

fence me in!

When I do become serious (once a week or so), I am capable of the

most refined feats of intellectual judgment (the game at its

subtlest level).

Let's play.

Om shri budhaya namaha.

3. A Message From Venus

By Michael Laughrin (Michael)

[As you may know, I can talk to the planets. Venus wants me to give

you this message. - Michael]

Venus says:

People think that I am all about sex. It is true that sex is one of

the things in my portfolio, but it is one of the lesser things.

Mostly I am about beauty, (artistic) truth and children (the end

result of reproduction).

I love flowers, fruits, meadows, honeybees and sweet, refined

things. Many people have little or no sense of refinement; for

those mud people, the only beauty they see is sex.

Music, dance, laughter and fun are within my purview. My sibling

Mercury and I love many of the same items; but Mercury likes to flit

around more.

I want your Soul to sing -- perhaps through cooking (for fun, not

for necessity), through color, through smell (only sweet, never

bitter). I love the dance of sports, even if I do not much care for

the sweat or overexertion. Poetry -- especially love poetry -- I

adore it. You must *marry* me to gain the higher blessings of the

Muse. Musicians and artists know what I mean. To truly be an

inspired artist of the Highest ilk, you must worship at my altar

every day. Practice, practice, practice. Gardening of flowers

appeals to me. I rule inspiration, refined emotions, imagination,

and renewal of life and spirit.

Since I am all about beauty, I love balance and the balanced life.

In a crude age, life is so rough that many people overeat sweets to

get some of my Venus energy somewhere in their (imagined) dark

lives.

Here is a possible hierarchy of things that invoke my energy, from

the lowest to the highest.

Sex

Food

Sport

Cooking

Rearranging furniture

Crafts

Walking and communing with Nature

Acting in the theatre

Gardening

Poetry

Painting

Filmmaking

Music

Dance

Worshipful singing

Mother Divine mantras or prayers

If only you would spend two to three hours per week on one of my

activities (the one you enjoy the most will give the best results),

many emotional, physical and spiritual problems will melt away.

Om shri shukraya namaha

4. Astrological Combinations with Striking Outcomes Part I

By Alison Nielsen (premavratini)

Certain combinations in Jyotish are counter-intuitive. Mostly,

Jyotish's general principles produce similar results, but

occasionally combinations come up in which predicted outcomes go

against one's intuitive sense. Here are five such combinations:

1. Generally, Saturn sitting in the seventh house of partnership is

regarded as unfavorable for producing and/or sustaining marriage.

This is because Saturn is a malefic planet, a separative planet and

a drying, ascetic planet whose approach favors solitude. However,

shastra remarks that when Saturn occupies the seventh house for

Capricorn lagna, the native acquires the "best of all wives." This

would seem more unlikely since Saturn thereby sits in the

constellation of his enemy, Moon, and aspects into his debilitation

sign of Aries who is on the fourth house of sukha, or happiness.

However, Saturn does acquire dig bala, directional strength, in the

seventh and rules two mainly positive houses. Furthermore, if he is

located in Cancer, there is a good chance that he will occupy the

nakshatra of Pushyami, renowned for its nurturing qualities and

owned by Saturn himself; or that he will occupy the nakshatra of his

friend Mercury, who rules the ninth house of good fortune.

2. For some rising signs, one planet rules two dussthanas (houses of

suffering). Ordinarily, if such a planet falls in the lagna of a

horoscope, it tremendously weakens the entire chart and particularly

any yogas it influences. An exception to this is when Cancer rises

and Mercury occupies the first house along with Moon and Venus. Even

though Mercury rules the 12th and 3rd houses, shastra says such a

person will become tremendously wealthy. There are a number of good

astrological reasons for this. Firstly, Moon and Venus form good

yogas for Cancer rising. And Mercury usually takes on the character

and nature of the planets that influence him. Even though the

location of Mercury with the Moon implies that the Moon will be

quite dark because the Sun will be nearby, Moon still has good

strength by virtue of occupying its own sign. And again, the Moon

will fall in the nakshatra of Jupiter, Saturn or Mercury, which

means that the person will, at minimum, run at least part of his

Mercury dasha and will definitely run the twenty year period of

Venus who makes both raja and dhana yogas.

3. A third unlikely combination is the Vapi Yogi. It consists of

having all planets located in four Panaphara or four Apoklima

houses. In the first case, this means that grahas would appear in

all three of the major dussthanas. Ordinarily planets in dussthanas

cause obstruction, loss and suffering, but it is reported that a

Vapi Yoga, like the combination above, also gives great wealth. One

Muslim prince has this combination, Capricorn rising, all planets in

2,6,8 and 12.

4. Another such result often happens when an exalted malefic aspects

into its sign of debilitation while simultaneously aspecting the

lord of its debilitation sign. When this happens, both house and

lord come under the influence of an extremely powerful malefic,

which greatly increases the chances for harm to a house. Paul Newman

has such a combination influencing his fifth house. Saturn is

exalted in the 11th in Libra and Mars is in his own sign of Aries in

the fifth. And even though Mars is in his own sign aspected by

Jupiter from his own sign in the first house, nonetheless, the

influence of the very powerful Saturn was able to kill his only son,

Scott Newman.

5. Jupiter is the naisargika karaka, or natural significator, for

elder siblings. Ordinarily, his presence in Sagittarius would

indicate some amount of superior strength for elder siblings, but

when he occupies the first 13 degrees 20 minutes of Sagittarius he

can kill an elder sibling due to his presence in the nakshatra of

Mula. Mula is ruled by Alakshmi or Nairriti, the anti-Lakshmi force

in the universe.

*** We thank the astrologer Hart deFouw and his guru lineage for the

knowledge above.
