Guest guest
Dear Shankar Ji, Yes, mantras may definitely be chanted for the benefit of others. The most common example is that of pandits in temples and mathas that perform poojas and yagnas for the benefit of all mankind. For normal householders, the most common reason to perform mantras on behalf of others are because the person concerned cannot do so on their own due to ill health, extreme young age or extreme old age. For example, parents have the right as well as the responsibility to chant on behalf of their young children. Similarly, one can perform any mantras, stotras etc for anyone else in the family, and such chanting benefits both the giver and the reciever. My Guruji has taught that anyone really can chant or pray for the benefit of anyone else, since we all belong to the same family (Vasudaika kutumbam - the earth is one family). Are you looking to chant for something in particular? You mentioned kalyaana - here is the Shanti Paath that is chanted for Loka Kalyanam, i.e. the benefit of the universe. http://www.aryasamajhouston.com/invo_docs/shanti.html Another simple prayer for the benefit of all mankind is: Sarvesham swastir bhavatu Sarvesham shantir bhavatu Sarvesham poornam bhavatu Sarvesham mandalam bhavatu Loka samastah sukhino bhavantu which means May all be well May all be peaceful May all be complete May all be auspicious May the entire world obtain happiness All the best, Venkatarama Sreelatha , "shank4124" <shank4124> wrote: > > Dear Gurujis, > > Namaste.Today I was visiting a web-site and I saw that mantras can be > chanted for another person's benefit. Guest guest
Dear Srilathaji, may I add that the entire text of Purusha Sooktam and Sree Sooktam faals under the category of general welfare and loka kalyanam. You have rightly said in temples when Rudram is recited the benifit of such pious chantings shall go to the place as well as praja around it. Infact most of the yagnas and kratus are meant for the benifit of society. Regards krishnan "V. Guest guest
Dear Sreelathaji, Yes..you are correct but i wish to add..except in the case of parents reciting...all are cases require proper sankalpam without which the mantra recition will not achieve intended aim. In case of temples and mutts..sankalpam is performed. One can easily get sankalpam from near by pandit or temple. Regards, sriganeshh , "V.
