Guest guest
Dear MD, Very good question! The SHANTHI as it means is the act of 'pleasing' dieties to get 'something' granted. That 'something' determines the diety to be pleased. For eg., Varuna for rain. Shanti involves two major UPAAYAs(techniques) - SAAMA and DAANA ie Prayer, Praising, Pleasing with various SEVAA(services) AND offerings. Other prayogas like ucchatana, vidveshana are more powerful and violent sometimes since they involve other two major UPAAYAs - BHEDA and DANDA ie separation and punishment. As one can understand easily, Shanti-kriya is a SATWIK technique while others involve RAAJASIK and TAAMASIK techniques. Usually Brahmins or Pandits do not involve in Raajasik and Taamasik techniques since they perturb mind much. Secondly, those methods need the usage of 'FIVE MA's(Maamsa, Madya, Matsya, Mudra, Maithuna) to get SIDDHI faster.(It can be got without 5MAs too) Thirdly, if there is any mistake by chance, those Tantras can kick back effectively, since they involve spirits or lower strata of dieties, which are not SATWIK in nature. But there are Pandits or Brahmins who have Siddhi in satwic way of course as a result of their years long practice, but are very rare. hope I answered your question yours KAD , "monmuk111" <monmuk111> wrote: > > Hello Kad: > > Your notes are very educational, thanks for writing about the six > shat-prayogoas--shanti, vasheekaran, etc. etc. > > Now, this brings up a question--why do the Pandits/Brahmins in India > only perform the Shanti rituals, RARELY the Uccatana rituals and > NEVER the Vasheekaran, Samhara, Stambhana and Vidveshana. > > I once approached a pandit for performing a non-Shanti type ritual > (don't want to disclose which ritual and where I found it) on an evil > ex-wife who was tormenting me and my parents.
