Guest guest
Dear Anupama, Sorry to interfere between you and Amitabh, but I feel there is a mis- understanding of SHATKARMA. What you have mentioned as SHATKARMA are really six types of TANTRIK PRAYOGA or ABHICHAARA. All of them belong to ATHARVANA veda and are SHAT-PRAYOGAs. Real SHATKARMA according to vedas are the DUTIES of a 'right-holder'. They are: ADHYAYANA(Study), ADHYAAPANA(Teaching), YAJANA(Fire-Sacrifice), YAAJANA(Instructing Yajana), DAANA(Offerings/Donations), PRATIGRAHA(Receiving Daana). The Shat-prayoga as you mentioned are Tantrik and practical part of Atharvana: SHANTI(Pleasing), VASHEEKARANA(Capturing), UCCHATANA(Getting rid of), SAMHAARA(Killing), STAMBHANA(Freezing) and VIDVESHANA(Creating troubles and separating) hope it helps you, yours KAD , Anupama V <anu_pama_v> wrote: > Dear Amitabh, > Could you Please guide me on my understanding.Your answer did give me some insight. But not sure if my understanding is right or not.I was told by a priest in my nearby temple-What he told me was that out of the Satkarma( Santhi, Vaseekarana,Uchadana,Samhara,Sthambhana and Vidvashana), only Santhi karma will be there in RigVeda and others are all part of Atharva Veda. Please guide me on my understanding. > > Anupama > > Amitabh Shastri <amitabh_shastri> wrote: > Dear Anupama, > > There is no difference between any Vedas - all are Vedas and compilation of sacred shlokas. Guest guest
Hello Kad: Your notes are very educational, thanks for writing about the six shat-prayogoas--shanti, vasheekaran, etc. etc. Now, this brings up a question--why do the Pandits/Brahmins in India only perform the Shanti rituals, RARELY the Uccatana rituals and NEVER the Vasheekaran, Samhara, Stambhana and Vidveshana. I once approached a pandit for performing a non-Shanti type ritual (don't want to disclose which ritual and where I found it) on an evil ex-wife who was tormenting me and my parents. This pandit yelled and screamed at me and threw me out of the temple for making this request. So, why do the Pandits ONLY practice Shanti rituals despite the other rituals being a part of Rig-Veda. Guest guest
Dear Anupama, Thanks to Kad for his insertion. More such views would help clarity. Anupama, Patanjali's Yogashastra lays down a different set of shatkarma - Dhauti (Stomach cleaning), Basti (Colon cleaning), Neti (Nasal passage cleaning), Nauli (Cleaning of the abdomen), Pranayama (cleaning the respiratory organs and purifying the mind), Trataka (mind cleaning through gazing/ concentration). These physical activities are essential for health of body and mind. It has been stated that without complete purity of mind and body, none can ascend the next step to attain spirituality. In the texts you would find many other references to chaturarmas, panchkarmas, shatkarmas, ashtkarmas etc. It depends on their purpose and who they are addressed to. However, coming to the shatkarmas mentioned by you, they are indeed referred to as Tantrik practices, but are merely magic, if done with evil intent. If no evil intent is involved, they are followed by Tantriks following the Vamachar path. Even Lord Shiva has deplored the following of these practices in the revelation to Parvati. The narration would be of little value. With best wishes, Amitabh Shastri Anupama V <anu_pama_v wrote: Thanks for the headsup Anupama kadrudra wrote: Dear Anupama, Sorry to interfere between you and Amitabh, but I feel there is a mis- understanding of SHATKARMA. Guest guest
Dear Amitabh, Thanks for the mail .Yes KAD's insertion has helped me too clarify some of my querries. And what you mentioned is right ony"More Views would help clarity".Yes I too have so many questions in my mind.If you go back to one of my previous mail,I did mention on one of the incidents where the servant was caught red handed poisoning food.On questioning it was revealed that she was being called to theirs so called friends place and introduced to a Balck magician who regularly was giving her some powder to be sprinkled on the very persons food.On laboratory test it was revealed that it was some herbal poison. From that very day I had so many questions in my mind and had been looking out for answers on many of them. What is difference between normal Thantra and Blackmagic. If so what is this powder. Is this mentioned in any Vedas or man made. What are the tribals(She was saying that he was a tribal guy) doing. Are the practicing Atharva Veda and many others. And as you know this is not like astrology where you can research on individuals and locate out. Also as mentioned in KAD mail apart from Santhi all others are evil deed and one should not practice those. So just kept on asking people and reading books whichever came on my way and still many of my questions are unanswered. However,Please do respond to me later. It was really educative interacting with the group. But I have registered for an exam which is supposed to be scheduled after 3 months and am paying a huge amount as entrance fee itself. So right now my focus is on something else and hardly get time to go through the mails.Frankly speaking bit tensed also and so keeping all other questions away from my mind for the time being and focusing on the biggest challenge before me.So will get back after Iam done with my assignment. Thnx, Anupama Amitabh Shastri <amitabh_shastri wrote: Dear Anupama, Thanks to Kad for his insertion. More such views would help clarity.
