Mantras - Rig and Atharva Veda ( Is there any difference)-Anupama to Amitabh Shastri

Dear Amitabh,

Could you Please guide me on my understanding.Your answer did give me some

insight.But not sure if my understanding is right or not.I was told by a priest

in my nearby temple-What he told me was that out of the Satkarma( Santhi,

Vaseekarana,Uchadana,Samhara,Sthambhana and Vidvashana), only Santhi karma will

be there in RigVeda and others are all part of Atharva Veda.Please guide me on

my understanding.

There is no difference between any Vedas - all are Vedas and compilation of

sacred shlokas. Rigveda is the oldest. The root of word "Rig" is "Rit" meanig

course. Rig Veda therefore, lays down the course of life. It may be surprising

that of 1603 shlokas of Sam Veda, 1504 are repeated from Rig Veda. Similarly in

Yajur Veda 50% shlokas are extracted from Rig Veda and as for Atharv Veda 19

Khandas are from Rig Veda.

 

Sakala Pratisakhya describes the recitation method for Rig Veda. Taittraiya and

Vajasanoyi Pratisakhyas describe recitation methods for Yajur Veda. Chaturahyayi

describes the recitation method for Atharv Veda.

 

A legend has it that Brahma received the Knowledge of Vedas from Mahavishnu and

then related it to his son.
