Shad ji,

Excellent story! Clearly, Narasimha always protects!

Our devotion matters more to God than anything else. My uncle

told me a story about how Krishna went as the Pandavas'

messenger to Dritharashtra's court. He stayed at Vidura's house.

Vidura's wife was so overwhelmed that she was with Krishna that,

she started peeling bananas, eating the fruit, and offering Him

the peels! Krisnha however ate them with relish.

When Vidura saw this, he was furious. He snatched the bananas

from his wife's hands, and removing the peels, offered the fruit

to Him. krishna refused them, and when Vidura enquired, Krishna

said, "O Vidura! Your wife offered Me peels, but she did it with

affection. You are offering the real fruit, but with anger, and

so I cannot accept the same."

What is offered is perhaps not as important as how it is

offered.

You must have seen the Sarvato Bhadra Chakra analysis I

generally do. You know how it all started?

Well, I once went to Vedanta Book House in Bangalore, which is

reputed for good religious and jyotish books. I wanted to see if

I could get something on the Sudarshana Chakra methods

highlighted by Rishi Parashara in BPHS. I asked the book seller,

and he told me that he did not have anything on Sudarshana

Chakra, but he did have someting called Sarvato Bhadra Chakra.

As I have said before, I recite the Narasimha Mantra mentioned

above whenever I am driving. Since I had just stepped into the

shop, I immediately recognized the words Sarvato and Bhadra, and

decided immediately to buy the book!

Thank you that helps... it feels better to know the meaning of a

manta and then chanting it rather than just saying it....

Dear Balaji,

nice Banana story :)

You made a good point!

The whole purpose of tapasya, chanting, meditation, initiation,

everything has the goal that we might achieve devotion to God!

This is all what counts!

As you said it is more important in which attitude and consciousness

one offers something to the Lord, everything anyway belongs to Him -

what actually can we offer Him?! This is why He is aclled

Bhagavan... what really pleases Him is our devotion.

I was told from a sadhi in our Vaishnava line that Narasimhadev as

single deity should only be worshipped by sannyasis or highly

qualified brahmins. A householder and common as we are should always

worship Him together with Prahlad or Lakshmi devi. It is said that

Prahlad and Lakshmi alone can tame Him, in case we do any offenses,

to not receive any stronger reactions.

Jay Narasimhadev!

All the best,

Shad
