Tanvir ji and Partha Sarathy ji,

Recently, there was a query from a woman on JR, who was having

difficulty concieving even after four years of marriage. I told

her that I would help her with the calculations which would

increase the possibilities of bearing children. The same is

given below. My Math is terrible, and I wish that one or both of

you should have a look at it to ensure that what I say is

correct. I would request Meenu ji to ignore this post until it

has been verified by at least one of you. It is for this reason

that I have deliberately chosen not to address this message to

her.

First, the source. The method has been detailed in Shri Bepin

Behari's book "Astrology Simplified." The details under the

heading "SPHUTA" are given below, from Page 187. To save time

typing out the text, I am reproducing the relevent entry from

aryabhatt.com, which carries the exact text:

*** Begin

SPHUTA

[sphuta = opening, blossoming]. Calculations relating to the

possibility of having an offspring. Three important sphutas are

considered in this regard: (i) Beeja (seed) sphuta, (ii) Kshetra

(field) sphuta, and (iii) Putra tithi (opportune date for

impregnation) sphuta.

Beeja sphuta is obtained by adding the longitude of Sun, Venus

and Jupiter in the husband's chart. The sum indicates a sign and

its Navamsa. If both of these are in odd signs, virility is

present and the chances of an offspring are good. If both are in

even signs, virility and the chance of progeny are both absent.

If one is odd and the other is even, the progeny may be delayed.

Kshetra sphuta is worked out by adding the longitudes of

Jupiter, Moon and Mars in the wife's natal chart. If the sign

and Navamsa thus obtained are both in even signs, fertility and

chances of progeny are assured. In case both are in odd signs,

the progeny will be delayed or even denied. If one is odd and

the other is even, there may be a delay but the progeny can be

expected.

Putra tithe sphuta is decisive in progeny prediction. It is

determined as follows: Multiply the longitudes of natal Moon and

Sun separately by 5, subtract the result obtained from Sun from

that of Moon, and convert the result into degrees, minutes, etc.

Divide it by 12. The quotient plus 1 gives the tithe required.

If this is less than 15, it is deemed to be in the dark half,

and if the remainder is less than 6, the tithe is in the first

half. If it is more than 6, it would be in the second half.

Impregnation during this period has greater chance of

fertilization.

*** End

Now, the birth details:

Husband: 03 Nov 1972, 7 AM, Faridabad [28n26, 77e19]

Wife: 12 June 1977, 7 AM, Faridabad [28n26, 77e19]

I'm also enclosing the printout from Haydn's Jyotish concerning

their planetary positions at birth. I have trimmed some details

to ensure that it fits without wrapping:

* --------------------------

* Lagna: 21 59'37" Thula

* Surya: 17 15'34" Thula

* Buddha: 10 19'06" Vrischik

* Sukra: 10 20'04" Kanya

* Kuja: 28 03'31" Kanya

* Guru: 11 50'38" Dhanus

* Sani: 26 13'55" Rx Vrishabh

* Rahu: 26 05'08" Rx Dhanus

* Ketu: 26 05'08" Rx Mithuna

********************************************************

* Name: Meenu Kapoor

* Birth 06/12/1977

* Time: 07:00:00

* Time Zone: 5:30 East

* Latitude: 28 26' North

* Longitude: 77 19' East

*

* Rasi Angle and Sign

* --------------------------

* Lagna: 18 41'08" Mithuna

* Surya: 27 26'48" Vrishabh

* Chandra: 6 13'11" Mesha

* Buddha: 8 26'47" Vrishabh

* Sani: 19 35'49" Kataka

* Rahu: 29 14'10" D Kanya

* Ketu: 29 14'10" D Meena

********************************************************

Now, for the application. I have used "^" to indicate degrees.

* Beeja Sphuta:

Surya: 17^ 15'34"

Sukra: 10^ 20'04"

Guru: 11^ 50'38"

-------------------------

Total: 38^ 85' 76"

-------------------------

Corrected: 39^ 26' 16"

This falls in Vrishaba, which is an even sign. In Navamsa, it

falls in Meena, another Even sign. This doesn't seem too

positive.

* Kshetra Sphuta

Chandra: 6^ 13'11"

Kuja: 10^ 52'55"

Guru: 21^ 53'42"

-------------------------

Total: 37^ 118' 108"

-------------------------

Corrected: 38^ 59' 48"

We come to Vrishaba, 8^ 59' 48", which is an even sign, and is

good for women. In the Navamsa, it comes in Meena, another even

sign. Since both are even signs, I would say that the chances

are very good.

* Putra Tithi Sputa

Here, the calculations do not indicate if it should be applied

to the wife or the husband. I have taken the liberty of applying

it to the wife because I feel it is more appropriate.

Surya: 27 26'48" multiplied by 5 = 135^ 130' 240"; Corrected:

137^ 14' 0"

Chandra: 6 13'11" multiplied by 5 = 30^ 65' 55"; Corrected:

31^ 5' 55"

Subtracting Surya from Chandra - 31^ 5' 55" minus 137^ 14' 0" -

we get -73^ 51' 55". For this calculation, I took 31^ 5' 55" as

30^ 65' 55". I hope that this is permissible, but I wanted to

get the negative at the degrees, not the minutes.

We can take the result to be positive, as 73^ 51' 55". I also

think that, at this stage, we could get rid of the minutes and

the seconds, and then round the figure to 74^. Dividing it by

12, we get the quotient of 6. Adding 1, we get 7.

The reminder is 2, and it is less than 6, so it implies the

first half. First half of what? I think it is the day - The

quotient below 15 determines the paksha.

So, I think that the Putra Tithi stands in the first half of the

day for Krishna Saptami.

Please verify if this is true. I would request you to be

exceedingly rigorous in your approach because my Math is very

poor and therefore highly unreliable at the best of times!

Tanvir Ji

Namaskar. Since the query posted by Shri Bala Ji was addressed to yourself and

Partha Sarathy Ji I thought it proper to ask permission. Anyway I am glad that

you have no objection. Will be back with my analysis.
