For your notion about the ego, i think Neeraj has no where said that wearing it in the index finger will make you less religious, less sober and not responsible but the point here he was trying to make is that wearing it in ring finger will be more auspicious. I read this in VRA by Shri Sanjay Rath Ji. Also, I had seen some people (including my nana ji) wearing it in ring finger. So I *prefer* that yellow sapphire should be worn in ring finger. Though, you will find most of the books and astrologers of the opine of index finger. So, when in doubt between ring finger and index finger, wear it round your neck. I never said that if you wear it in index finger, it is harmful. Also as yellow sapphire is mostly worn to promote love and marriage, the vein of your ring finger directly goes to heart. This may be the other reason, that it gives better results, when worn in ring finger. However, if you wish, you can wear it in index finger.
