Guest guest
Bhava or chalit chart is a confusing and confused item in modern jyotish. Simply stated, the zodiac is divided into 12 segments. If you like pizza or pie, it is like taking a pizza and dividing it into 12 equal slices. The slice with the red hot red pepper is aries, the one with the hawaiian pineaple is taurus, the one that looks oh so symmetrical is gemini, the juicy, watery one next to it is cancer, the one that kind of rises a bit higher than the rest is leo, the one with neatly arranged pieces of fruits, vegetables (no meat in this slice you will note) is virgo, the one that has fuzzy edges but still looks nice and beautiful is libra, the one with all that red meat and kind of scary looking is scorpio, the next one that hardly looks like pizza is sagittarius, and then the funny looking smallish but really quite potent darkish slice is capricorn, then comes the largish one right next to the glass of juice or soft drink and seemingly large enough to feed the entire table is aquarius and finally we get to the last piece which is hiding but not quite, and you have no idea what it is going to taste like or what surprises it holds, is pisces! That is the cosmic chalit or cosmic bhavas. Some call it by the dry (jyotish can be very very dry if you have been hanging out at some of the lists!) name of whole house system. Kind of like whole wheat bread -- healthy piece and all, but really! Or you can take the virgin pizza (the sky undivided) and because you are looking at it from an angle from the earth and not viewing it as a circle or sphere but as an ellipse sort of (some slices could be larger than others but all are really equal and equally nutritious!) and divide it so that the cuts match your viewpoint. You then end up with the unequal house divisions, or more colourfully, the pizza that you can see and control from the earth (geocentric view). However, the problem with this view is that the pizza was not cooked properly and is not flat, so it is kind of curved and floppy, so some of the 12 slices do not even show up, particularly if you go too far north and try to look at it. This is how Sripathi and Alcabitus and Porphyrii viewed it (since I have had no pizza for a few days, I could be mixing up the names!). However, they were too hungry so to get to the pizza quickly, they divided it hastily and averaged and approximated those divisions. But then came the anal scientist types, the morinuses and Regiomontanuses, and Campanuses and so on and they had better knowledge of spherical trigonometry (really just a fancy way of cutting the damned pizza into 12 or so slices so that everyone gets a nice equitable slice) and so on. Jyotishis being a practical crowd, did not wait that long. They went for the whole house or recently the equal division for most of their work and relegated the sripati slices (averaging) for shadbala determination, which is for many jyotishis, like: which sauce will you prefer? (we order all three but eat the pizza without the sauce, anyway! We like the raw, native taste without sauces and curries, unless it is vindaloo, or shall I say VINDALOO!!). Most jyotishis, even the ones that don't admit, for most of their delineations, use just the whole house systems (one rashi per house: planet in 1 d or 29.9d aries is in aries and if aries is rising, then the planet is in 1st house). Others who plan to eat rice, a curry and a favorite condiment (obviously much much) after the pizza (just in case -- who wants to wake up at 2 AM hungry and prowl around the kitchen to the peril of one's annamaya kosha particularly if married or living with the one who baked or ordered the pizza in the first place!) -- hedge their bets and go with the whole sign for analysis and sripati for shadbala partly for convenience and partly because what they are after is that full feeling in the 'stomach' that ensures peaceful slumber! I think, I will now take a pizza break, if you friends do not mind! RR , Sreekumar Ambalath <skumar_astro> wrote: > Dear Learned Members , > > What is the significance of Bhava Chart ? Guest guest
Very beautifully explained , Ranjanji. Why do you not expand it further into a full length article ? Guest guest
This was a seed :-) The rest of the article was for the reader to develop within and through real horoscopes! Looks like I might have missed my target, yet again ;-) RR , "Anand" <shivaji@c...> wrote: > Very beautifully explained , Ranjanji. > > Why do you not expand it further into a full length article ? > > Regards , > > Anand > - > rohiniranjan <rrgb@s...> > <> > Saturday, September 04, 2004 7:33 AM > Re: Significance of Bhava Chart (WARNING: Serious jyotishis, > skip this one!) > > > > Bhava or chalit chart is a confusing and confused item in modern > > jyotish. > > > > Simply stated, the zodiac is divided into 12 segments. Guest guest
As usual, very funny.
