Hello Mark ji,

First of all, it was really nice to know your experiences in

meditation. Secondly you have quoted something related to success

-the way that we meditate, that meditation is sucessful.

Success and defeat are two facets of same coin. Once we try to

meditate sometimes you would have realized that our thoughts are

filled with worldly matters. And to some extent it is quite genuine

as we are attached to the day to day world. It is for that reason

only we do think in terms of success or no success. The only point i

would like to stress upon is success or no success are end results of

materialistic world. We can see it in the bigger perspective also.

Think of a situation once you do something without worrying about the

outcome. When there is no fear then where does success comes from?

You did mentioned in the end that

-Devotion, and even concentration or resolute attention, are natural

by-products of regular meditation, and are themselves not the best

way to meditate.

They are all ways to look at a portion of glass building. If you are

standing inside the building still the building will remain made of

glass and also the same if you are standing outside. The only

difference is your position or way you experience it.
