Naksatras: Do's and Dont's

Rohini, Uttaraphalguni, Uttarasadha, and Uttarabhadrapada are FIXED

constellations and are favourable for digging wells, laying

foundations or cities, expiatory rituals, planting trees,

coronations, buying lands, meritorious deeds, sowing of seeds,

installation of Deities, the building of a temple, or any other

activity desirous of a lasting or permanent effect.

Mrgasira, Citra, Anuradha, and Revati are SOFT or GENTLE

constellations good for fine arts, learning, making friendships,

sensual pleasures, decorations, sexual union, wearing new apparel,

marriage, singing and dancing, processions, auspicious ceremonies,

festivities, dealings of agriculture, and journeys.

Asvini, Pusya, and Hasta are LIGHT or SWIFT constellations and are

good for sports, enjoying items of luxury, starting industries,

skilled labour, medical treatments, starting education, starting

journeys, seeing friends, buying and selling, the performance of

spiritual activities, decorations, fine arts, exercise, and for

giving or receiving loans.

Ardra, Aslesa, Jyestha, and Mula are DREADFUL stars and are suitable

for success in warfare, invocation of elementals and other spirits,

imprisonment, separations, acts of destruction, and the breaking of

alliances with superiors.

Purnavasu, Svati, Sravana, Dhanistha, and Satabhisa are TEMPORARY,

MOVABLE, or QUICK stars favourable for undertaking travel, acquiring

conveyances, gardening, going on processions, visiting friends, and

anything of a temporary nature.

Bharani, Magha, Purvaphalguni, Purvasadha, and Purvabhadrapada are

FIERCE or CRUEL, constellations and are suitable for acts of evil,

deceit, and conflict, destruction of enemies, incarceration,

poisoning, arson, battle, setting fire, acts of destruction, ill-

repute, and cruelty.

Krtttika and Visakha are MIXED constellations and good for routine

duties, one's professional responsibilities, and any activities of

day-to-day importance.

How to apply this to their natures:

FIXED (steady) stars, this is a favourable nakshatra to perform such

things as laying foundations, for building, careers, relationships,

things that you want to be permanent.

SOFT (gentle) stars, favourable for art, dance, music, marital union,

ceremonies.

LIGHT (excellent) stars, which give pleasure, sports, giving

medicine, starting industries or travel.

SHARP (harsh) stars, tantric incantations, imprisonment, causing

separation of friends, assasinations.

MOVABLE stars, acquiring vehicles, going on procession, gardening.

DREADFUL (cruel) stars, evil schemes, evil deeds, planting ghosts in

people, deceit, imprisonment, setting fires - arson.

MIXED stars, works of every day, day to day importance.

In the Vedic culture everything has its functional use. Some things

may be good/right for some things, but "inauspicious" for other

things. The following will give you insights into what the science of

electoral (nuhurtha) astrology is all about.

Tithi: Do's and Dont's

1st Lunar Day - pratipat

The presiding deity of the first lunar day in Brahma and is good for

all types of auspicious and religious ceremonies.

2nd Lunar Day - dvitiya

Vidhatr rules this lunar day and is good for the laying of

foundations for buildings and other things of a permanent nature.

3rd Lunar Day - tritiya

Visnu is the lord of this day and is good for the cuttings of one's

hair and nails and shaving.

4th Lunar Day - chaturthi

Yama is lord of the 4th lunar day, which is good for the destruction

of one's enemies, the removal of obstacles, and acts of combat.

5th Lunar Day - panchami

The Moon rules this day, which is favourable for administering

medicine, the purging of poisons, and surgery.

6th Lunar Day - sasthi

Karttikeya presides over this day and is favourable for coronations,

meeting new friends, festivities, and enjoyment.

7th Lunar Day - saptami

The 7th lunar day is ruled by Indra; one may begin a journey, buy

conveyances, and deal with other such things as a movable nature.

8th Lunar Day - astami

The Vasus rule this day, which is good for taking up arms, building

of one's defenses, and fortification.

9th Lunar Day - navami

The Serpent rules this day, with is suitable for killing enemies,

acts of destruction, and violence.

10th Lunar Day - dasami

The day is ruled by Dharma and is auspicious for acts of virtue,

religious functions, spiritual practices, and other pious activities.

11th Lunar Day - ekadasi

Rudra rules this day; fasting, devotional activities, and remembrance

of the Supreme Lord are very favourable.

12th Lunar Day - dvadasi

The Sun rules this day, which is auspicious for religious ceremonies

the lighting of the sacred fire, and the performance of one's duties.

13th Lunar Day - trayodasi

The day is ruled by Cupid and is good for forming friendships,

sensual pleasures, and festivities.

14th Lunar Day - chaturdasi

Kali rules this day suitable for administering poison and calling of

elementals and spirits.

15th Lunar Day - amavasya and purnima

The Vasve-devas rule the New Moon suitable for the propitiation of

the Manes and performance of austerities.

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Vishkambha (Supported) -- prevails over

others, victorious over enemies, obtains property, wealthy.

3 PRITI 40 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Priti (Fondness) -- well-liked, attracted to

the opposite sex, enjoys life with

contentment.

4 AYUSHMAN 53 Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Ayushman (Long-lived) -- good health and

longevity, energetic.

5 SAUBHAGYA 66 Degrees 20'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Saubhagya (Good Fortune) -- enjoys a

comfortable life full of opportunities, happy.

6 SOBHANA 80 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Shobhana (Splendor) -- lustrous body and

demeanor sensualist, obsessed with sex.

7 ATIGANDA* 93 Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Atiganda (Large-cheeked) -- difficult life due

to numerous obstacles and accidents; revengeful and angry.

(Ati-ganda described as "big-stink", as in trouble)

8 SUKARMA 106 Degrees 20'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Sukarma (Virtuous) -- performs noble deeds,

magnanimous and charitable, wealthy.

9 DHRITI 120 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Dhriti (Determination) -- enjoys the wealth,

goods and spouses of others; indulges in the hospitality of others.

10 SOOLA* 133 Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Shula (Spear, Pain) -- confrontational and

contrary, quarrelsome, angry.

11 GANDA* 146 Degrees 20'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Ganda (Cheek) -- flawed morals or ethics,

troublesome personality.

(I´ve also seen Ganda described as stink, as in "causes a stink")

12 VRIDDHA 160 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Vriddhi (Growth) -- intelligent, opportunistic

and discerning; life constantly improves with age.

13 DHRUVA 173 Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Dhruva (Constant) -- steady character, able to

concentrate and persist, wealthy.

14 VYAGATHA* 186 Degrees 20'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Vyaghata (Beating) -- cruel, intent on harming

others.

15 HARSHANA 200 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Harshana (Thrilling) -- intelligent, delights

in merriment and humor.

16 VAJRA* 213 Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Vajra (Diamond, Thunderbolt) -- well-off,

lecherous, unpredictable, forceful.

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Siddhi (Success) -- skillful and accomplished

in several areas; protector and supporter of others.

18 VYATAPATA* 240 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Vyatipata (Calamity) -- prone to sudden

mishaps and reversals, fickle and unreliable.

19 VARIYAN 253 Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Variyana (Comfort) -- loves ease and luxury,

lazy, lascivious.

20 PARIGHA* 266 Degrees 20'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Parigha (Obstruction) -- encounters many

obstacles to progress in life; irritable and meddlesome.

21 SIVA 280 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Shiva (Auspicious) -- honored by superiors and

government, placid, learned and religious, wealthy.

22 SIDDHA 293 Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Siddha (Accomplished) -- accommodating

personality, pleasant nature, interest in ritual and spirituality.

23 SADHYA 306 Degrees 20'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Sadhya (Amenable) -- well behaved,

accomplished manners and etiquette.

24 SUBHA 320 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Shubha (Auspicious) -- lustrous body and

personality, but problems with health; wealthy, irritable.

25 SUKLA 333 Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Shukla (Bright White) -- garrulous and

flighty, impatient and impulsive; unsteady and changeable mind.

26 BRAHMA 346 Degrees 20'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Brahma (Priest, God) -- trustworthy and

confidential, ambitious, good discernment and judgment.

27 INDRA 380 Degrees 40'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Indra (Chief) -- interest in education and

knowledge; helpful, well-off.

VAIDHRITI* Degrees 00'

The Soli-Lunar Yoga is Vaidhriti (Poor Support) -- critical, scheming

nature; powerful and overwhelming mentally or physically.
