Very true, Surya. A diety when invoked will not only "fix" the

problems "assigned" to its realm, but also overall. Ultimately, any

form of the divine IS the Divine, somewhat like infinity/10 is still

= infinity.

Plus, you made a very valid point about Mrutyunjaya mantra. It is a

mantra of Shiva, but is used for a variety of inflictions caused by

different problems or circumstances. Death inflicting, as you

mentioned, also for 6th house or 6th divisional chart problems, i.e.

health problems. (I am currently performing this mantra for my

parents continued health.) This is also a means to relieve "death-

like suffering" caused by other planets like Saturn, Rahu or Ketu,

and is often prescribed during some of the phases of Sade Sati, or

Kantaka Shani.

As for Siva and Mars, Tanvir, I can see a possible explanation.

Hanuman is a diety of Mars, as is Narasimha and Subrahmanya, and

Tuesday, the day of Mars is the most auspicious day to worship Him.

Hanuman is also worshipped as an Amsa of Shiva. The vaanaras in

Ramayan were born with the Amsa of the devatas, all to assist Vishnu

in his birth as Rama. Hanuman is sometimes worshipped as Pancha

Mukha Hanuman, i.e. Hanuman with the 5 faces, and one of these is

Shiva, one Narasimha etc. Shiva literally means auspicious, and that

is the meaning of the word Mangal (Mars) too.
