A student of mine sends clippings from Rao's list. Isn't he a breath

of fresh air? ;-)

Hope I am not breaking any cross-posting rules, administrator?

[jyotish-list] Worst pop astrology

Pop astrology at its very worst is what the idiot boxes are giving

today. A

woman astrologer says that the Venus-Sun phenomenon will give very

beautiful

children to pregnant and in their office they will have big rise and

better

career openings. One of the television channels was totally stupid

in this

regard, one restrained, one cut it down to minimum and concentrated

on the

terrible disturbances in the Indian parliament.

>From this experience I understand the appreciate when an American

told me once

that he had put his television set in a basement room out of the

reach of his

children. It could be for some other reason also I guess.

Yours,

K.N.Rao.

The chances of forecast of beautiful babies being borne to be

correct must be about 100% as all the babies are beautiful, and no-

body would say that any baby is ugly looking!!

In contrast to this the forecasts made by savants goes wrong so

frequently eg BJP defeat.

As for TV pop astrology, about 100 or 200 years ago printed medium

say books or newspaper must had been ridiculed in the same way.And

after 100 years we may have some quite differnt system/media and at

that time TV/computer would become sacred being old media.!

Sorry Inder -- did not address all of your points in my last

response.

I would not hold against anyone nor judge anyone by mundane

astrology predictions. Those are based on charts that are often less

accurate and more speculative than natal charts and so must not be

judged too rigorously. I think that is a developing craft, even now.

Actually much of jyotish is. I have been following the jyotish scene

since mid-sixties and the amount of information and research and

illustration and research mentality in jyotishis has grown

tremendously. Internet has helped and so have publications like the

astrological magazine and others. I personally do not find most

books, translations of classics to be very helpful. Please note, I

said 'most' and not "all"!

You are right about newer media challenging the existing ones and so

on, but I think what Mr. Rao meant was the commercial flashy kind of

tv astrology that we see in north america and perhaps more in India.

Just like the 'sunsign' astrology of west, some of the commercial

astrology is more of entertainment value than educational. Though

many people call astrology as entertainment or classify it so to

cover their posteriors legally, the fact of the matter is much of

that type of astrology is for entertainment!

But, not here, of course, so let us get back to work!
