Guest guest
Tanvir, I have been very impressed by this group, the variety and the energy that flows through this group! It would be interesting to revisit the origin, now that this group is a bit over an year old and of course you were WRONG! It is not a small group in numbers or in scope of the messages that it hosts :-) It has the makings of a truly eclectic group with a scope that defies a narrow stream of thought (a school, or only focussing on remedies etc). It would be interesting to discuss the chart of this group and see if what the epochal kundali represented did bear out over the time since its inception? The time of posting of the first message is important so can you post the date, time and place when you posted the following message to announce the group? The message gives a time of 10:49 but what zone is that in? Maybe you folks celeberated the anniversary already, before I joined but if you did not <shame on you you old timers, you!>, I want to rectify your error ;-) There is very little love lost amongst jyotishis (the writer kinds, anyway!) or astrologers for that matter in this universe. Why don't we change that, right here, tonight by congratulating Tanveer and everyone else associated with this group, from the beginning of its time? Guest guest
Dear Rohini Jee, Thanks. We all are very happy to get you here, for your activity, thoughtfullness and contribution. Right now I don't have a scope for reading a chart, not before July 10th at least :-( So may be after that, or may be you can discuss it to some extent and let us learn manything from it? Well, the first welcome message I sent was on 21 March 2003, 12.49 AM, and the time zone was GMT+6, Dhaka, Bangladesh means 90E25, 23N43, no DLS. So it means the birth of this group was just some 10-15-20 mins ago from the time when I posted the first post. Yes, I was wrong :-) And I am happy that I was wrong !!!! JR is the second largest Group on Vedic Astrology / Jyotish. I am very happy to establish it. Though the thought to create a group just came to my mind when I saw the text 'Start your own group...' and thought it would be fun and exciting to do so. I never thought that this group would grow this big! My main purpose was to help people with remedies, but scope increased I have given a lot of labour and tried to share whatever knowledge and experience I gathered. Right now I am talking to a person from our country to make a little software which would print basic info on planets such as exaltation, debilitation, some yogas after putting the positions through drop down menus. [Not the birthdata, it will not have an engine to calculate planetary positions.] I do not know programming so I can not tell how far would it go, or would it start at all, it is not on my hand :-) I look forward to your other write ups and sharing of experiences. Best wishes, Tanvir. , "rohiniranjan" <rrgb@s...> wrote: > Tanvir, > > I have been very impressed by this group, the variety and the energy > that flows through this group! Guest guest
Thanks for your kind words. The first posting is kind of like the birth. The baby can be directly observed and becomes 'real'. The other times are like the conception times etc, which remain (perhaps purposedly) nebulous. RR , "Tanvir Chowdhury" <lord_narayana@l...> wrote: > Dear Rohini Jee, > > Thanks. Guest guest
That is very correct. But, it can be also said that the first post of the list is when it becomes 'active'. Conception should be when I just clicked on the link, "Start your own group" and for next 10/15 minutes I was working step by step to build the group and conditions, rules etc., it all was the development in the uterus :-) Then when I clicked the 'Finish' button, I guess it was the birth. Now the question appears what it the activation of a human? Starting his breathing cycle, or what? This is very confusing :-) Regards Tanvir. , "rohiniranjan" <rrgb@s...> wrote: > Thanks for your kind words. The first posting is kind of like the > birth. Guest guest
I would like to keep it simple, for starters :-) The time showing of the first message is the birth-time for drawing a chart. But we have problems in that area (like many birthtimes!). The posted message shows as 10:49 AM (assuming PDT) but according to you it was 12:49 AM Dhaka time. If you go to the first message, what date and time are you seeing there? Please let us know (assuming you are still in Dhaka). Guest guest
I think the system displays the time of message based on what the 'viewer's" time zone is set as. So for the identical message you will see a certain time, but I would be seeing a different time stamp. That is actually something that one must remember when taking the time off for horary purposes etc. for instance, I use that information for the crystal pages readings at that . On the internet where requests flow in like a deluge, many cross posted with copy and post, but many a times, the person is not even sure of a response etc. So a quick horary check to gauge the seriousness of intent may be desirable for the astrologer before putting in a lot of time into a request. Just a time-management tool, that may be of no relevance to all. Also, a fuller history of the 'events' in the life of a message show up when one clicks on the source tab. It then shows when the message was posted, and when published. It should be an interesting exercise to see which of those charts fits the general theme of a group better, or at all. It all takes a lot of time, obviously, but good to keep in mind, I suppose. , "Tanvir Chowdhury" <lord_narayana@l...> wrote: > I am seeing "Fri Mar 21, 2003 12:49 am" and I also do remember that > it would be some while after 12 o'clock night and not so early like > 10:49 :-) > > Regards > Tanvir. > > , "rohiniranjan" <rrgb@s...> > wrote: > > I would like to keep it simple, for starters :-) > > The time showing of the first message is the birth-time for drawing > > a chart. > > > > But we have problems in that area (like many birthtimes!). Guest guest
Junta, Just a thought, do people here think we can come up with our own version of software by distributing work?? I have always wanted to write a software for astrology ... if anyone feels it's worth a shot we can try to figure out the modus oparandi of the same !! Shoot a mail ! --- Tanvir Chowdhury <lord_narayana wrote: > Dear Rohini Jee, > > Thanks. We all are very happy to get you here, for > your activity, > thoughtfullness and contribution. Guest guest
The need (at least from a personal point of view) is not for a software that calculates a chart or more dashas, etc -- there being many free and commercial software that would do that, but to develop a software that can be used as a research/categorizing/pattern recognition tool. In the western realm of astrology, software like astrodatabank and jigsaw and some of the neurnal network software are available, but despite at least one of these supporting some of the searches for vedic astrology, and a couple of jyotish programs doing some of the rudimentary searches and sorting, there is the absence of a flexible database manager program for jyotish charts. We often try to look for certain combinations as given in classics or new experimental ones but it is so difficult to identify these and bring them out for study from say a collection of a few thousand charts. The current software is very restricted and one needs to put some thought into the best search module design and how flexible it should be and so on. A forum discussion like this would give good ideas because individuals would have different needs, etc. This is the kind of software that will be needed by at least a minority of jyotishis. Unfortunately, it would have to be a labour of love perhaps by an independently wealthy person. This is because the fact is that even jyotish software of wider interest tend to be commercial strains on the developer who must eat in the meantime, etc. Good luck with your venture! Guest guest
Oh... you are taking it wrong ! It is not 'US' who are going to write the program, but it is virtually 'SOMEONE' who'd write the program for me. Because I do NOT know prorgamming! LOL! Well I talked to one of my 'net-friend'(s) who accepts to write some of it for me. I already sent him some sheets basically explaining about planets exaltation, house counting etc. He is very busy though, but does not dishonour my request / proposal. But it's too much on him. Why don't you yuorself write a program little by little? i want him to write a program that will not calculate planetary positions but the user will input it by drop down menu, and the software will only calculate stuff like yogas, exaltation, moola trikona and more later, advanced calculations like this. it is not about chart building but about analysing and interpreting a chart. As Rohini Jee said, we already have a lot of software to build up the chart accurately. Guest guest
Hello, I was contemplating on such software only ... neural net based one .. it will be a challenge to design it ... and I think about a year of part time work will be enuff to come with a jolly good software ... We of course have to break and form groups to plan the design .. i dont mind taking lead role !! --- rohiniranjan <rrgb wrote: > The need (at least from a personal point of view) is > not for a > software that calculates a chart or more dashas, etc > -- there being > many free and commercial software that would do > that, but to develop > a software that can be used as a > research/categorizing/pattern > recognition tool. Anyone every used "starry nights" software??? its a brilliant program that gives y ou teh exact sky position at any given instant of time !!! I think one of its old versions is a freeware !! do try sometime !! --- Tanvir Chowdhury <lord_narayana wrote: > Oh... you are taking it wrong ! Guest guest
My plan is to make something basic first then develop and add more and more features little by little. I do not know ANYTHING of programming :-( if I want to do from my own then I will have to learn and develop skill , it would need more than 6 months, starting from July / Aug. But if my friend can do it, he can do the basic software within 1 month I guess. I already supplied him some ideas and he had to read it carefully to know basics of astrology, rulership, counting signs, houses, exaltation, star dispositions, aspect,s sign aspects etc. Now if I say him that he doesnt have to do it, he will be mad and sad :-) So I guess may be I work with him to let him do and we develop it later when we get more skilled? Regards Tanvir. , surya vishnubhotla <surya_prakashv> wrote: > Hey Tanvir, > > I can program a little ... if we can plan out a design > in about say 6 months ... in the next 6 months we can > make a software ... > > I think we can both learn astrology this way as well > as make our part time hobby more meaningful !! let me > know !! > > Anyone every used "starry nights" software??? its a > brilliant program that gives y ou teh exact sky > position at any given instant of time !!!
