Guest guest
I ran a bird business for many years in California and raised exotic birds such as parrots and other types. I had hand raised several parrots from birth, have trained them to talk and observed and adored birds since I can't remember when. Birds have an incredible verbal ability as well as other thought provoking actions. Once a friend had a cockatoo and she told me this Mynah bird flew in from 'out of town' (LOL) and refused to leave so she coaxed him in and got him a cage next to Harry the cockatoo. Mina the Mynah bird and Harry seemed to like each other. Then something started to happen at night ...Harry seemed to escape his cage and was found shrieking in the morning from various places in the house. Mina was never suspected because she remained in her cage with her door closed. My friend then put a special latch pin on Harry's cage so he couldn't get out. He still was able to do so and she could not figure this out. So she asked me what I thought and I told her to videotape the cages at night so she could figure out the mystery. She brought over the videotape the next day and while watching it...it was discovered the Mina was able to 'unlock' herself from her cage by hanging off the side and sticking her beak between the bars and working the latch up and out so the door would open on her cage. She would hop over to Harry and pull his pin up and out of it's holder on the door and voila...Harry was free! Harry could talk and he would respond with 'thank you' fifty million times to Mina. Unreal. Mina then went back to her cage and maneuvered herself inside, hang off the underside of the bars and PULLED her door shut and then worked the pin up the side of the cage door and INTO its holder locking herself in so no one would know (I assume) that it was her. Now come ON....we can't figure out that animals have brains or what? This required thought and planning on the bird's part. This required the bird to look ahead and know that someone might accuse her of doing this so she locked herself back in her cage and played innocent. With the camera rolling my friend asked Harry...how did you get out? Several times in a sing song voice without expecting a 'real' reply and Harry would say "I don't know...nyuk nyuk" as he imitated laughter. Once she got him in the cage and walked away...Harry was saying "Mina is a bad birdie...nyuk nyuk". I've heard that Jupiter rules birds. He sure has a sense of humor if he does...LOL Renee Jean CLEMENT [tashrif] Friday, February 06, 2004 1:19 PM Re: Sign of collective consciousness rising?
