Guest guest
Hi list, Just thought that i would join the discussion, Most people look at Karma as something that is "enforced" by a Diety. Personally, I believe the Diety is a passive principle in Karmic operation and mainly facilitates the activation of karma, must like an macro Excel program. The exception to this is when a person completely surrenders himself to God and according to the Gita, the Doer becomes God and the person the instrument. In such a case, the fruits of one action does not attach itself to the embodied soul. So as long as man thinks that he is the doer, karma is inevitable. In Jyotish, it stated that the planets are incarnations of Vishnu and they serve to render our karma in our lifetime. Yet, the planets do more than that. They allow us to create or renew ourselves by providing situations that allow us opportunity to change/ re-create ourselves. Now that does not mean, there is no free will. We have free will in determining the reaction to a karmic event and through that reaction further karma results. As such, free will and destiny are the image of each other and are interdependant. Just my thoughts. Guest guest
Hi Friends, There is lot of confusion among people about karma and free will. The discussion between Sage Vasishta and Lord rama will clear these doubts. Please click on: http://www.geocities.com/parasu41/self_effort.html Free will is same as Self effort. Guest guest
"The blessings that flow from the company of holy men are incomparable to any other blessings. The holy man's nature is cool and peaceful; his behavior and actions are pure. Therefore his company promotes peace and goodness in everyone who seeks it. In his company one loses fear. Sinfulness comes to an end and one grows in purity. Even the love and affection that the gods and the angels possess are nothing compared to the limitless love that flows from the holy ones." (Yoga Vasistha, VI.2.39) > Free will is same as Self effort. It make me think of the story of the frog who fell in a pot of milk. The frog try to jump out of the pot but this pot was too big. So it try to swim a little, pray a lot and then after quite a while it knew... this is karma, this is my fate... all is well, this is the way it should be, this is karma. So it waited and waited and finaly died. An other frog fell in some other pot of milk. The frog try to jump out of the pot but this pot was too big. So it try to swim a little, pray a lot and then after quite a while it knew... that it really wanted to come out of this pot!!! So it swim very energetically... and swim and swim and swim... without rest, with all its heart, with all its courage... till it swim so well and churn so vigorously that the milk become butter and was hard enough for the frog to jump out of the pot. the morality of the story... when will the gopi start to cover those pots!!!
