However let me tell you guys that guru mantras should first and foremost have a guru that we believe in. So first define a guru for yourself (be it narayana or someone who feel is the right person for you to deliver from this world thru the rest) and then do the mantra surrendering yoruself to them. It will be imperitive then that Guru takes care of all your problems. But it is said that lord Shiva is pleased with good disciplin and regular rituals in his worship ... while Vishnu is particular only abotu love for him in your heart and un conditional surrender to him ... But again ... lord shiva is blind to the flaws of his devotees ... while it's easier to get vishnu if u put yoruself at his feet and lead a pure life ... However ... it will take a lot of rigerous and regular practice if lord shiva is to materialize as your guru in reality ... there is no instance that i know of lord shiva actually becomes guru of anyone in past ... however, Adi sankaracharya who is the incarnation of Lord shiva himself would be great guru to have if at all you should want lord shiva to be your guru. Let me tell u a secret ...
