But recently I came to know from a reputed astrologer that it is the Arudha Lagna ( Pada to the Lagna Bhava ). I am a bit confused and doubtful regarding this confusion . What is the actual meaning of Upa Pada ? I used to think it is the pada to the house of 12 . But now I found my mistake . Or am I right ? Or wrong ? What does Upa Pada Lagna mean in real ? We earn money to do something useful and not to waste away after these kind of so called astrologers. Give your money to poor people instead, God will be pleased - but do not give even a penny to fraud astrologers. These days there are no lack of cheater people popping up as wise astrologers, but going to them and paying them would only call in danger for you since they have no predicting abilities so do not rely on their predictions, and taking stones or mantras as per their suggestion is totally dangerous and risky. The Upa Pada is the pada or the arudha of the 12th house [Vyaya Bhava] as you correctly used to know. Arudha Lagna is the pada/arudha of the Lagna and totally different from upa pada. Arudha lagna is the most important pada while upa pada is the second most important pada and that is why it is called upa pada and it is also called Gauna Pada. So you see upa pada [uL] is not the pada of the asc as the "reputed" astrologer taught you. Ask him where he got the info from? And anyway if you do not mind can you please tell me how did you get his contact? Also, please take any of his predictions at your own risk and be very careful to adopt any remedy or anything he provides. He might be selling expensive stones to you or something, please be very careful. UL is v imp since it shows the people you are emotionally / personally attached with, esp. your spouse. So it shows the marriage and marital life and also spouse in some way. It is also v imp to time marriage with some rashi dashas, say the current research I am doing on Chara Dasa, UL is being very imp and prominantly it is showing some reference to the timing of marriage most of the times. Now, please go to the reputed astrologer and ask him if he is the spouse of himself, since as per him UL [spouse] is the pada of asc [self] then he must be the wife of himself, too !!!! God... where the astrology is going to... people teaching upa pada is the pada of asc... and being hailed as reputed astrologers? So, Arudha Lagna = Arudha of Lagna = Lagna Arudha = Pada Lagna = Pada of Lagna etc. BUT, Upa pada (UL) = arudha of 12th house = pada of 12th house. It is a basic knowledge that 'Upa' means secondary, which comes second [Hence is NOT the main.] So 'Upa Pada' means that Pada that comes the second [And not the main]. So even by looking at the word, we see clearly that the Upa Pada can NOT be the Arudha Pada, since Arudha pada is the main pada [pada of lagna]. The name 'upa pada' says it clearly and it is also called 'Gauna Pada'. Gauna means secondary or what i not the main, the opposite word is 'mukhya' means main, say 'Mukhya Mantri' = Chief Minister.
