Observations: Atmakaraka Rahu

 

Having just learned about atmakaraka and its connection with dasa periods I did

some research on the subject and learned a lot about how jyotish works.

 

I first begin with looking at Rahu as atmakara, because this seems more simple

to me than a planet with houselordships and karakas.

 

My book states the following about Rahu and Ketu:

“Rahu and Ketu, despite their dignity, give good or bad results according to

their position or association”.

“Rahu and Ketu give the results of the planets conjoined with them or aspecting

them. Their results depend upon the lord of the rasi and navamsa in which they

are placed”.

Relying on the dignity of Rahu and Ketu is a risky prospect. They do not seem to

give consistent results due to their dignities, as do the other planets.

The best rule is to follow the rules given above. These rules are particularly

important when interpreting the dasas of Rahu and Ketu. During their dasas,

Rahu and Ketu give the results of the lord of the rasi and navamsa they are

placed in.

 

I did research on the following chart:

Male, 12 march 1974, 23:37, 52N43, 005E17, -1:00, Lagna 21.10 Libra

 

The atmakaraka is Rahu in Sagittarius in the 3rd house.

So the lord of Rahu is Jupiter, and the navamsa lord of Rahu is Mars.

Rasi Mars is in the 8th house of accidents and crisis.

 

As a kid this boy loved riding his bike. Saturn aspecting the 3rd house from the

9th makes him a restrained rider, never taking risks. So he has very little

accidents, like falling with his bike, but when he does fall, it ends up wrong

for him.

 

The first accident happened 12 okt.1980, in Ju/Ra/Ra/Ma/Ra

He broke his left thigh (Rahu in Sagittarius, Jupiters sign) and had to stay in

the hospital for 4 months, being terribly homesick.

Transit Mercury (12th lord of hospital and karaka of the 3rd house) was at 20.43

Libra within 1° of Lagna 21.10 Libra, when he fell with his bike, and the dasas

need no further explanation, clear enough, Mars as planet in 8th indicates,

besides Rahu, the accident and the crisis.

 

The second accident happened 15-4-1983, in Sa/Sa/Sa/Ju/Ve

Here Venus as 8th lord indicates the accident.

He fell again with his bike and broke the same left thigh again and stayed in

the hospital for 2 ½ months.

No Rahu present in the dasas this time!

But transit Rahu joined natal Saturn that day.

Natal Saturn 4.26 Gemini, transit Rahu 4.42 Gemini.

So Rahu is involved in this accident also as a transit.

Transit Rahu activating natal Saturn, and Saturn dasa activating natal Rahu by Saturns 7th aspect.

 

There is no year or date remembered for the third accident, should be in May

1985 of 1986. He went on a school-trip for 2 or 3 days and they traveled by

bike. He fell on the first day with his bike and broke his arm, but no one of

the teachers or parents present took him to a doctor and he had to ride on with

his broken arm, tied in a cloth.

 

Summer 1987 in Sa/Me/Ra, he leaves mothers house to go live in fathers house.

Saturn is 4L, mother. Mercury is 12L, loss. Rahu in 3rd, seperation from brother and sister.

In Sa/Mo/Mo he returns to live in mothers house.

 

He was predestined to find his father dead, in home of father, on 19 march 2003 in Me/Me/Ra/Ra/Me

Mercury is 9L, the father, and 12L, loss. Rahu in 3rd house, 3rd house rules death of parents.

All of his life-lessons so far, can be placed in this one area, they are always

related to third house matters.

 

Another chart with Rahu as atmakaraka:

Female, 5 may 1952, 04:08, 52N43, 005E17, -1:00, Lagna 19.54 Pisces

 

Here atmakaraka Rahu is in the 12th house (hospitals, foreign countries) in

Aquarius, ruled by Saturn from the 7th, very close to ascendants degree, Saturn

is in the nakshatra Hasta, whose symbol is ‘the hand’.

In navamsa Rahu is in scorpio, ruled by Mars.

Natal Mars is in the 8th house of chronic disease, surgery and accidents.

Throughout her life this woman had many, many operations on all kinds of problems.

 

She had an accident on 6 oktober 1989 in Ra/Ke/Ke/Ju/Sa and from than on she

lost her health and suffered chronic disease.

She cut her hand on glass, a deep cut, nerves were cut. It never healed well.

She suffers from ‘post traumatic dystrophy’, a very painful nerve disease,

which gives pain 24 hours a day and caused paralysis to a certain degree, of

the hand. Years later she overcome the paralysis by acupuncture, and now can

use her hand again, but the pain never leaves as the disease also progresses in

other parts of the body.

Here atmakaraka Rahu causes this woman to spend a lot of time in hospitals for

operations or doctors visits, giving her very difficult lessons in life on

health subject.

Ra/Ke/Ke/Ju/Sa

Rahu is in 12th house of hospital

Ketu is in the 6th house of disease

Jupiter is lagna lord (the body)

Saturn aspects the lagna very closely and is the 12th lord and also the karaka

of chronic disease, and rules her atmakaraka Rahu in Aquarius.

 

The 12th house also rules foreign countries, foreign residence. I am not sure if

this means you have to live there permanently. But this woman travels very, very

much to foreign countries with her husband, but only to stay there for a couple

of weeks.

But her life surely is structured around traveling and visiting hospitals.

 

When you look back at these events, it all seems so logical, it so fits in a

pattern, shown by the chart. But how can you ever predict these things to

happen in the future? Surely I can see dangerous periods coming up, but how can

you ever see wat really will happen?
