as far as i understand--=it is 'nav [nine] 'AMSHA' not 'masa'.

 

in sanskrit and hindi 'Amsha' means ' part' .thus 'navamsha' [or'navansha']

means ninth division.all other divisionals are on the same pattern like

'saptamansha', 'dashansha',etc. only 'trinshansh' is an exception.

words are written in english, I had seen in hindi also

its' Nav (9) Mansha (parts).
