He administers good and bad upon people as a result of good and bad actions. If Ishvara commits ‘jana-ardana’, we can only conclude that this person ‘rAkshasa-janaH’ caused evil thus reaping its rewards. But most people fit into the first definition, having committed some good and some bad, thus receiving both ardana and sukha at the hands of Ishvara. 10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy"> 10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy"> font-family:Tahoma;font-weight:bold"> [] On Behalf Of Sourav Saturday, April 22, 2006 10:43 PM Re: sir....[Om Krishna Guru] .....namastey saab 12.0pt"> || Hare Rama Krishna || Dear Freedom-ji, Namaskar. You are also right and you are thinking is the positive way which is good. Your meaning is applicable. However, various translators interpreted this word in various ways based on their own understanding or based on the context. For example, this word appears in Chapter 1 Sloka 36 in Bhagavad Gita. Here Swami Gambhirananda, a very venerable scholar and a sanyani of the Ramakrishna Order has interpreted it as "One who afflicts creatures". I quote him here: " By addressing Krsna thus, Arjuna hinted that, since killing of relatives was sinful in his case, therefore, if they are to be killed at all, it should be done by Krsna Himself, for no sin accrues to Him even when He destroys the world at the time of cosmic dissolution."
