Dear

Freedom-ji,

Namaskar. You are also right and you are thinking is the positive way which is

good. Your meaning is applicable. However, various translators

interpreted this word in various ways based on their own understanding or

based on the context. For example, this word appears in Chapter 1 Sloka 36 in

Bhagavad Gita. Here Swami Gambhirananda, a very venerable scholar and a sanyani

of the Ramakrishna Order has interpreted it as "One who afflicts

creatures". I quote him here: " By addressing Krsna thus, Arjuna

hinted that, since killing of relatives was sinful in his case, therefore, if

they are to be killed at all, it should be done by Krsna Himself, for no sin

accrues to Him even when He destroys the world at the time of cosmic

dissolution."

Best

wishes,

Sourav
