Interpretation of Rahu and Ketu

Dear Venkata Rao,

Namaskar. This refers to a confusion of

opinion regarding ownership/exaltation of Rahu and Ketu starting from Maharshi

Parasara down to today's jyotishis. You will find many other combinations of

Rahu and Ketu in the literature. In our parampara, following the dictum Shani

vat Rahu and Kuja vat Ketu (Rahu behaves like Shani, Ketu behaves like Mars),

we take Kumbha as Rahu's ownership and Vrischika as Ketu's ownership. Mithuna

is Rahu's exaltation and Dhanus is Ketu's exaltation. Kanya is Rahu's

moolatrikona and Meena is Ketu's Moolatrikona. We have found this working quite

well.

Best wishes,

Sourav

Dear Souravji,

Namaskar. Thank you for your reply. In fact in Dr BV Raman in his

one book it was mentioned Ownership of Leo for Rahu and in another it

was Virgo for Rahu.

I wish to know how to calculate the strength of Rahu and Ketu.

Shadbalas and Bhava balas are calculated only for seven planets.

Rahu represents either Saturn, or owner of occupying Rasi or aspect

of other planets. If we calculate the aspect strength in terms of

degrees or Sashtiamsas, we can know whether Rahu or Ketu receives

positive or negative aspect of other planets. Suppose we take Khumbha

as own Rasi for Rahu and it is placed there. Can we say Rahu in Lagna

is good for Khumbha lagna native. Since Rahu's motion is in opposite

direction, does rahu at the beggining of a Rasi is Old and at the end

of Rasi is balak or young. How do we interpret 18 years of Vimsottara

Rahu Dasa. Suppose Rahu receives more of Jupiter aspect and Jupiter

is strong can we say that Rahu dasa will be good, subjected to giving

interpretation to Antardasas in relation with Jupiter.

Further some interpretations suggest that Rahu or Ketu strongly

aspects a planet or house and give a malefic or benefic phala. Since

these are shadow planets , can we say that they aspect other planets

or houses.

Dear Venkata ji,

As what i know is Rahu is the shadow of earth when sunlight comes to

it. The same way when some light coms to you and your shadow is seen

behind....so when Leo is Sun's sign therefore the opposite sign i.e.

Aquarious is given to Rahu...

hope you understand my point of view

Thanks

Dear Tarun,

This is an interesting perspective. But Rahu is only shadow of earth

during lunar eclipse; during solar eclipse it is shadow of Moon.

Like Rahu, Ketu can also have both roles, it depends where Rahu and

Ketu are at the time of the eclipse.

Best wishes

Dear Tarun,

I'm not sure what you mean by "Vs". I've usually been told that Rahu

has characteristics similar to a mixture of Saturn and Moon (and

tends to damage the mind, and is very materialist), while Ketu is

more like Mars and Sun (and tends to damage the body, but can be

good for spirituality). In practice, I find one of the several

traditions seems to work best: that Rahu is exalted (or at least

strong) in Gemini (and to a lesser extent in Virgo), and Ketu is

exalted (or at least strong) in Sagittarius (and to a lesser extent

in Pisces). Gemini and Sagittarius do not already have exaltation

grahas, so there is "space"!. I wouldn't like to speculate about

sign ownership or mulatrikona for Rahu and Ketu. These are just my

views at this stage in my studies!

Best wishes

Graham

Dear Tarun and Graham,

Namaskarams and thank you for your comments on interpretation of Rahu

and Ketu.

I understand the interpretation is done on three points.

1) Sani vat Rahu or Kuja vat Ketu as natural phenomena.

2) As Lord of Rasi occupied by Rahu or Ketu

3) Aspects of other planets received by Rahu or Ketu.

Many times we come across interpretations made on aspects of Rahu and

Ketu on other planets or Houses.

So I wish to know views

1) Aspects made by shadow planets on other planets and houses.

2) Does Rahu and Ketu also can have Avasthas like Baal, Kumar, Yuva,

Vridha and Mrith .

with regards

V.Venkata Rao
