Brhat Parasara Hora Shastra has written an entire chapter on this. In your case the Upapada falls in Meena rasi. Meena has Guru as the lord, and thus you must fast on GuruVara, i.e. Thursdays. Fast means NOT EATING, and the more sincere you are in your fast, the better results you will get. We usually advise drinking water if absolutely necessary, or eating fruits.
