Guest guest
Respected Sanjay Rath Ji, and Sarbani Ji, Pranaam, I attended your lectures on the abovementioned topic delivered by you on March 20, 2005. I could not have a clear concept on Mantra Devta. It is therefore requested that kindly spare few minutes for me and for list members as well to clarify the doubts. Mantra devta resides in the 4th house and the chosen mantra should be started from 4th house only .Is it correct ? Take for example I have selected a mantra viz".OM NAMO NARAYANAAYA ". This mantra has 3 words and 9 characters. If I start from 4th house then I have to go forward 3 houses away from fourth i.e.6th house and then again nine houses away from sixth house which comes to second house.Or, Should I start from 3rd house because this mantra has three words and go three houses away from 3rd house i.e.5th house and then nine houses away from 5th house i.e. Lagna.By choosing either of the method what is the result in respect of second house or lagna. While thinking about the selection of devta I am stuck up here regarding selection of the appropriate mantra. Please spare for me to make it clear concept with example. Thanks and Pranaam, Ramesh Mishra India Matrimony: Find your life partner online.
Guest guest
color:#FF0080">||Hare Rama Krsna|| Dear Ramesh, Namaskar The results of a mantra are always decided based on the ammount of words and aksharas. That is: count from the house indicated by the ammount of words, to the house indicated by the ammount of syllables. Count the same distance therefrom and that will be the result. Example: Om Namo Narayanaya – three words and eight bold">syllables/aksharas. So count from the third house to the eighth house – you will get six. Now count to the sixth house from the eighth and you will get the result – namely the lagna. So the mantra will improve intelligence and take ones head out of sin. Literally Narayana will hold his hand over ones head/intellect. Now we also know that if the result house is the place of the mantra devata, then surely the mantra will give excellent results. Example: for Vishnu its ninth house, for Shiva its seventh house, for Rudra its eighth house and so on. Guest guest
Pranaam, Thanks for sparing your valuable time for me. Now I could get the concept of approaching the appropriate houses where mantra devta should sit and to strengthen that house mantra jaap should be done. We should bear in mind that jaap should be done with the accurate syallables. But , while giving example of" Namah Shivaaya" mantra ,you have omitted the word "Om". This ommission is necessary or om is not prefixed namah shivaaya. However we shall meet next Sunday till then Pranaam. Ramesh MishraSanjay Rath <guruji (AT) srath (DOT) com> wrote: Jaya Jagannatha Dear Ramesh Mishra ji Namaste The mantra you state is the most famous Narayana astakshari. Astakshari means eight akshara. Example -1: om na-mo naa-raa-ya-Naa-ya 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 = 8 akshara [Akshara = energy inflow, final result] = 8th house 1 2 3 = 3 words [Words = energy outflow, start of count] = 3rd house Now count from 3rd house to 8th house, we get 6 houses Now count as many houses from the 8th house. In this example we got 6 houses, so when we count six houses from 8th house, we get Lagna as the answer. Final result = Naarayana is in LAGNA. So the mantra devata Narayana sits in lagna and the recitation of this mantra gives good health, protection from all evils, long life and clear intellect. It is the greatest mantra for lagna suddhi and is one of the three mantras of the Narayana Kavacha. The greatest strength of this mantra is that it removes all kinds of nija dosha indicated by the 8th house or 8th lord and makes the lagna very strong. Now study the dhyana or the meditation of the mantra devata. It starts as 'dhyaye sadaa savitrimandala madhyavarti Naaraayana..' and the reference is to the Sun which is the significator of Lagna and that Naraayana is in the centre of the solar orb. The best mantras of the devatas always fall in the correct houses indicated for them. Then such mantra are called Prasiddha mantra and such mantra can only be originally given by the seers as they alone had such great sight and knowledge. Example -2: na-mah shi-vaa-ya 1 2 3 4 5 = 5 akshara = 5th house 1 2 = 2 words = 2nd house Count from 2nd house to 5th house, we get 4 houses Now count 4 houses from 5th house and we get 8th house. This is the house of Rudra and the panchakshari mantra has the power to give great knowledge as it cleanses the fifth house and finally this causes protection from all evils of 8th house where Shiva sits to protect you and grant longevity. In this manner study the following 1. Surya astakshari om ghri-ni suu-ry-aa-di-tya 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 = 8 akshara 1 2 3 = 3 words Mantra devata = 1st house (Lagna) What happens when this is pronounced differently by breaking surya and aaditya om ghri-ni suu-rya aa-di-tya 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8= 8 akshara 1 2 3 4 = 4 words Mantra devata = 12th house in marana karaka sthana See the change how the position of the mantra devata changes from Lagna to the 12th house which is the marana karaka sthana for Sun. Thus while reciting the mantra if the words are not spelt jointly as indicated it can do a lot of harm. Exercise 1. om namo bhagavate vaasudevaaya 2. om namah shivaaya 3. om kshraum namo bhagavate narasimhaaya 4. om bhur namo bhagavate vyankateshaaya 5. brm brhaspataye namah 6. om namo bhagavate rudraaya 7. om namo bhagavate mahaamatsyaaya 8. gajamukha siddhirastu 9. hare raama krsNa 10. om hrim shrim krim paramesvari kaalike svaahaa 11. om namo bhagavate akuparaaya 12. vyam vedavyaasaaya namah ....just a start. Guest guest
Dear Mishraji, If I may join the thread: Both mantras are used. The one without using the pranava is the Panchakshari Shiva Mantra and the one with the pranava is the Shadakshari Shiva Mantra. Please see below Example number 2 for its explanation. (a) Counting mantras in the horoscope i. Count the number of words in the mantra. Assign the corresponding number of bhävas as Point A. ii. Count the number of akñaras in the mantra. Assign the corresponding number of bhävas as Point B. iii. Count the number of bhävas from point A to point B. iv. Count that many bhävas from B and mark that Point C. v. Point A is from where the energy of the mantra is taken. vi. Point B is where the energy of the mantra is invested. vii. Point C is where the Mantra Devatä sits. viii. The number of words in the mantra indicates the number of mälä to be chanted. Examples 1. Om namo bhagavate väsudeväya Number of words: 4 Number of akñaras: 12 Seat of the Mantra Devatä: 8th house Number of mälä: 4 The energy of the mantra is drawn from the 4th house, the hådaya of the devotee, and is invested in the 12th house, which is the paramam padam of Viñëu. Hence dvädaçäkñaré mantras are very sätvik, as the energy from all such mantras are offered at the feet of Viñëu, the 12th house representing the feet in the natural zodiac. The Mantra Devatä sits in the 8th house, cleansing our sins accumulated from our past births due to nija doña, for till the sins are burned one cannot embark on the mokña märga. Who else but Viñëu can burn our sins? The mantra spans the mokña trikoëa, indicating that dvädaçäkñaré mantras are aimed towards mokña. 2. Om namaù çiväya Number of words: 3 Number of akñaras: 6 Seat of the Mantra Devatä: 9th house Number of mälä: 3 The strength of the 3rd house is used to cleanse the ñaòripus represented in the 6th house. This cleansing is important before one can embark upon the path of dharma, which is the 9th house, the seat of the Mantra Devatä. It is Çiva alone who has the capacity to drink the poison of his devotees and digest it, and that is why he is known as Hara (one who removes sins), Nélakaëöha, the Blue-Throated One, blue because he has drunk the poison of the ripus of his devotees so that they can proceed on the dharma märga. 3. Namah Çiväya Number of words: 2 Number of akñaras: 5 Seat of the Mantra Devatä: 8th House Number of mälä: 2The energy for this mantra is drawn from the 2nd house, the väca sthäna. All that is spoken, seen and eaten is transformed into knowledge in the 5th house. This knowledge is crucial for negating the ignorance accumulated over one’s past births, embedded in the 8th house. This ignorance is that of satya, of not realizing the truth, which can only come from the light of gyäna that shines through the 5th house of the natural zodiac. This gyäna is nothing but Brahmagyäna and none other than Çiva can bless us with this knowledge. Hence the païcäkñaré mantra of Çiva bestows knowledge and siddhi. Guest guest
Dear Sarbani, one of my favorite mantra has been for a long time Shri Rama Jayam. I am from TN/kerala border. So it is a tradition there. Once Shankaracharya of Kanchi, Shri Jayendra Saraswati , requested on a magazine to chant/write this mantra. Since then I have been addicted to this mantra. I also know young unmarried girls from TN .esp write this mantra everyday to get a good husband. So it is not surprising that seat of this mantra is 7. Number of words: 3 Number of akñaras: 5 Seat of the Mantra Devatä: 7th house Number of mälä: 3 Is my exercise correct.?. you can reply to me personally also. Can you also tell what about Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa ? I am not able to count the aksharas. If you not heard of Ayyappa, he has a temple in Sabarimala in kerala. Sabari Mala is after Sabari of Ramayana . Thanks Sridhar --- Sarbani Sarkar <sarbani wrote: > Dear Mishraji, > > If I may join the thread: Both mantras are used. Guest guest
Dear Sarbani Ji, Pranaam, Many many thanks for clarification. Now the concept of Mantr Devta seems to be clear. Now the question arises. Is this mantra applicable to every individual native ? Suppose any malefic/benefic planet is the occupant of the seat of mantra devta then should we not consider those planets also ? Guest guest
Pranaam, I got it now. Now I am thinking every mantra is applicable for each individual native irrespective of one's lagna. Does it not have impact upon the native with his first letter name while chanting a particular mantra.Secondly consideration of the occupant of planets in the seat of Mantra Devta. Look ! in this world if there is God then there is Demon also. Demon as usual will try to obstruct your path of bhakti. So there is benefic and malefic planets in every chart. So this also may be considered ? With best compliments, Ramesh MishraVisti Larsen <visti (AT) (DOT) org> wrote: ||Hare Rama Krsna|| Dear Ramesh, Namaskar The results of a mantra are always decided based on the ammount of words and aksharas. That is: count from the house indicated by the ammount of words, to the house indicated by the ammount of syllables. Count the same distance therefrom and that will be the result. Example: Om Namo Narayanaya – three words and eight syllables/aksharas. Guest guest
||Om Brihaspataye Namah|| Dear Sarbani, I also request you to clarify whether the mantra 'Sri Ramajayam' is given correctly (need URW Palladio and Sanskrit 99 to view)... ïI ram jym! çré räma jayam The question I have is do we write rama and jayam separately as in the Rama taraka mantra or is it to be joined together as is written by pious people in South India i.e., whether it is 2 or 3 words. sometimes it is written continuously without any break at all (due to space requirements in notebooks sold specially for writing this mantra)! Number of aksharas = 6 Number of words = 3 Seat of mantra devata = 9th house I think that 3 words makes better sense since Rama sits in the dharmasthana and the energy is taken from the 3rd house to cleanse us of the shadripus represented by the 6th house. Moreover writing is a function of the 3rd house... Regarding 'Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa', I think it is: Number of words = 3 Number of aksharas = 10 Seat of mantra devata = 5 Not sure how to interpret this; hopefully Ramanarayan will contribute a few words here. regards Hari , Sridhar Govindan <appulali> wrote: > Dear Sarbani, > > one of my favorite mantra has been for a long time > Shri Rama Jayam. Guest guest
color:#FF0080">||Hare Rama Krsna|| Dear Ramesh, Namaskar Usually mantras which are applicable to all individuals are called Prasiddha mantras, and can always be applied. Not all mantras will place the mantra devata in his/her rightful place, just as not all mantras are Prasiddha mantras. Mantras which are not Prasiddha require careful scrutiny before giving them to any native, to avoid the negative effects which may arise from the mantra. That is when you start matching the first letter of the name, and so on as Narada and Shiva Purana have pointed out in detail. Guest guest
Dear Hari, Namaskar, How it is 8 syallables. When I count it comes 10 syallables. See how. Swa-1, mi-2,ye-3, sa-4 ra-5,na-6,ma-7 ,a-8, ya-9 and ppa-10 and 3 words .No doubt . So start from third house and go to 10th house. From third house to 10 th house you have advanced 8 houses. Now from 10th house you have to go further eight houses so it is coming to 5th house .This house is the seat of Mantra Devata. Here the starting house of 3rd house has crossed and came to fifth house.I do not know myself whether I am correct. This has to be verified. With best wishes, Ramesh Mishra onlyhari <onlyhari > wrote: ||Om Brihaspataye Namah||Dear Sridhar,Sorry I made a mistake here, it should be:Regarding 'Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa', I think it is:Number of words = 3Number of aksharas = 8Seat of mantra devata = 1Not sure how to interpret this; the abiding picture is of the devoteecarrying the bundle of offerings on his head (lagna) during theSabarimala trek; hopefully Ramanarayan will contributea few words here.regardsHari, Sridhar Govindan <appulali>wrote:> Dear Sarbani,> > one of my favorite mantra has been for a long time> Shri Rama Jayam. Guest guest
Many many thanks Visti Guru Ji. It means all these general mantras come into the category of Prassidh mantras. Ramesh MishraVisti Larsen <visti (AT) (DOT) org> wrote: ||Hare Rama Krsna|| Dear Ramesh, Namaskar Usually mantras which are applicable to all individuals are called Prasiddha mantras, and can always be applied. Guest guest
Dear Sarbani and all Gurus, This information is extremely helpful, thank you. Can you tell us where to find more information on this, such as which Devata sits in which house, and what each house signifies for these mantras? Also, what are the rules for choosing a mantra? If the seat of the Mantra Devata has a malefic planet it, would it be dangerous to use? Guest guest
||Om Brihaspataye Namah|| Dear Ramesh, Namaste. It is Swa mi ye sa ra nam ayya ppa 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 which comes to 8 aksharas. So now we have 3 words and 8 aksharas whereby the seat of mantradevata becomes the lagna or 1st house. regards Hari , ramesh mishra <aarceemastro2002> wrote: > IINOm Namah Shivaaye II > Dear Hari, Namaskar, > How it is 8 syallables. Now from 10th house you have to go further eight houses so it is coming to 5th house ..This house is the seat of Mantra Devata. Here the starting house of 3rd house has crossed and came to fifth house.I do not know myself whether I am correct. This has to be verified. > With best wishes, > Ramesh Mishra > > onlyhari <onlyhari> wrote: > > ||Om Brihaspataye Namah|| > > Dear Sridhar, > > Sorry I made a mistake here, it should be: > > Regarding 'Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa', I think it is: > > Number of words = 3 > Number of aksharas = 8 > Seat of mantra devata = 1 > > Not sure how to interpret this; the abiding picture is of the devotee > carrying the bundle of offerings on his head (lagna) during the > Sabarimala trek; hopefully Ramanarayan will contribute > a few words here. > > regards > Hari > > , Sridhar Govindan <appulali> > wrote: > > Dear Sarbani, > > > > one of my favorite mantra has been for a long time > > Shri Rama Jayam. Guest guest
om klim krishnaya jagannathaya svaha Dear Mishraji, These are prasiddha mantras which can be chanted by anyone. The analysis that we have done is one of the indicators of how the mantra works. We learned to use the horoscope to see that. As you may be aware there are multiple ways to determine the suitability of a mantra. The Rni Dhani Chakra, the Kulakula Chakra, the Avakhada Chakra, the Akadama Chakra, the Rashi Chakra, the Naksatra Chakra. The use of the namaksara that is the Hoda Chakra is used in this quite commonly. The complete compendium of suitability of mantras are given in well known mantra shastra books like the Sharadatilakam, the Rudra Yamala etc. Specific suitability for certain deities are given in individual texts. Above all, keep in mind, that when a guru initiates you to a mantra, accept it from your heart, and don't try to check its suitability. The tapas of the guru should be enough to carry you through. Of course one lands up with wrong mantras as well! Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Best regards, Sarbani

Guest guest
Hi Sanjay ji's exercise: 1. om namo bhagavate vaasudevaaya words = 4 letters = 12 Mantra Devta sits in 8th bhava. So Man shakti (4th) will be fruitified in form of Mukti (12th) as Mantra Devta 'Vasudev' will cleanse the Nij Dosha (8th) of the native. This mantra will even be better for persons having first swara as 'ae' (Eknath, Eklavya, Etreya) in their first name - Mantra Devta Name - Vaasudevaaya has first swara as 'aa' which is third from 'ae'. This mantra may not be good for persons with names like 'Indira', 'Iti', 'Ishwar' as 'aa' swara is 5th from 'ae'. 2. om namah shivaaya words = 3 letters = 6 Mantra Devta sits in 9th house of Dharma. So Parakram (3rd) will destroy Ripu (6th) as Shiv sits in 9th supporting Dharma of burning enemies. This Mantra is not suitable for natives having first name as 'Umakant', 'Urvashi' as this swara is 5th from 'Shiv' swara but good for people having first names as 'Sonia', 'OmPrakash', etc. 3. om kshraum namo bhagavate narasimhaaya words = 5 letters = 14 (2nd Bhava) Mantra Devta will sit in 11th house of Gains. 'Fame energy' (5th) will result in 'Financial Resources' (2nd) as Mantra Devta 'Narasimhaa' will empower 11th house of gains. I may be wrong in counting letters here. 4. om bhur namo bhagavate vyankateshaaya words = 5 letters = 14 (2nd Bhava) Mantra Devta will sit in 11th house. I may be wrong in counting letters here - so not going forward. 5. brm brhaspataye namah words = 3 letters = 9 Mantra Devta will sit in 3rd house of 'Parakram'. Energies will flow from 3rd to 9th - Dharma and Mantra Devta will purify native's efforts being in 3rd. Native will do purify parakrama to accomplish purpose/dharma for his existence. Brahaspati will guide his actions to attain his dharma for this life. 6. om namo bhagavate rudraaya words = 4 letters = 10 Mantra Devta will sit in 4th house of comforts. 4th house forces (Mana) will uplift 10th house ( Karma, Status) while Mantra Devta 'Rudra' sits in 4th house itself - his own energy will uplift native's karma. 7. om namo bhagavate mahaamatsyaaya words = 4 letters = 12 Mantra Devta 'MahaMatasya' will sit in 8th house of 'hidden things'. Sukh sthana energy will lead to Mukti while 'MahaMatsaya' destroying Nija Dosha & providing 'Siddhis' (8th). 8. gajamukha siddhirastu words = 2 letters = 8 Mantra Devta will sit in 2nd. Mantra Devta - Ganesh will do Vaak Shudhdhi & lead to hidden spiritual experiences. 9. hare raama krsNa words = 3 letters = 6 Mantra Devta will sit in 9th house of Dharma....now giving up.... Please correct me... 10. om hrim shrim krim paramesvari kaalike svaahaa 11. om namo bhagavate akuparaaya 12. vyam vedavyaasaaya namah regds Tushankur 9810041401 "SANJAY RATH" 21 March 2005 To 07:01 PM ZE5B "SJC List" <>, <vedic astrology> Please respond to cc vedic astrology@y ahoogroups.com Subject [vedic astrology] Re: Mantra Devta Jaya Jagannatha Dear Ramesh Mishra ji Namaste The mantra you state is the most famous Narayana astakshari. I will give more exercise when we meet next sunday and explain from charts how to choose. Guest guest
Satyam Bruyat Priyam Bruyat Dear Visti, I made some notes from Narasimha's MP3 recordings. As per that the 3rd house will become the source and 8H the destination and hence the benefits will be in the karakas governed by 8H. Lagna will be the devta sthana. Your mail seems to indicate that the benefits will be linked to Lagna. Kindly help me understand it better. Regards Ramesh Visti Larsen [visti (AT) (DOT) org]Monday, March 21, 2005 9:21 AMTo: Subject: RE: [Om Krishna Guru] Re: Mantra Devta ||Hare Rama Krsna|| Dear Ramesh, Namaskar The results of a mantra are always decided based on the ammount of words and aksharas. That is: count from the house indicated by the ammount of words, to the house indicated by the ammount of syllables. Count the same distance therefrom and that will be the result. Example: Om Namo Narayanaya – three words and eight syllables/aksharas. Guest guest
|| Om Namah Shivaaya || Dear Sarbaniji and list members, Namaskar, On the topic of mantras - I've found that there are a lot of people who instead of reciting "Om Namah Shivaaya", say "Om Namah Shivaay". This is effectively changing the mantra from a shadakshari to a panchakshari. What are the consequences of this? Will the mantra still be effective? Thank you, With reverence to the Gurus, Samir ______________________ Message: 24 Tue, 22 Mar 2005 12:45:29 -0500 "Sarbani Sarkar" <sarbani (AT) (DOT) org> Re: RE: [vedic astrology] Re: Mantra Devta om klim krishnaya jagannathaya svaha Dear Mishraji, These are prasiddha mantras which can be chanted by anyone.

Guest guest
You are right. The seat of mantra devata is in third house. What mistake I committed is that I separated nam as na+ma.Actually there is a bindi over na, so it will be counted only one syallable which I overlooked.
