Importance of Lagna and lagna lord

Dear List members,

While studying the horoscope of Sylvia Plath someone pointed out the

similarities between her and Jaques Chiracs horoscopes as they are

born just a month apart.

Ofcourse a month is a long period of time and fortunes can change

many times over in the course of that time. But curiosity led me to

have a look at Chiracs horoscope.

Its amazing what the strength of lagna and lagna lord can do to a

person's destiny.

Both the horoscopes are available at astrodata.com.

Chirac's lagna is very strong unlike Plath's.

There is no opposition of Mars and Saturn unlike Plath's.

Though Mercury is aspected by Mars in both horoscopes, Mars in

Chirac's horoscope is tempered by association with Jupiter.

Also being a kendra lord , Mars loses some of its maleficience.

Mars is not debilitated in Chirac's chart while it is so in Plath's.

I feel that one great basic difference in the horoscopes of

acheivers and non acheivers is the strength of Lagna and lagna lord.

If you have any horoscopes in your data bank that we can discuss and

compare for strength of lagna lords do put it up.

It would be a good learning experience.

All the best,

Neena

Hi Neena,

What about an ascendant in sandhi, does that count as weak? Here's one:

Jennifer Brown, first child of Gordon Brown (British politician)

Kirkaldy, Fife, Scotland, 28 Dec 2001, 12:16 GMT

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/1747863.stm

She was born prematurely by CS, and died ten days later. Note the

ascendant of 29d30'56" Pisces, the deepest sandhi. Of course there

might also be other bad indications in the chart...

BTW, they've since had another child, with a much better ascendant.

Hi Barney,

Sandhis are definitely weak points and lagna in sandhi would be weak.

What is your view on vargottama but neecha?

i have seen horoscopes with Taurus lagna lord in Virgo,

vargottama. Generally planets in last navamsa of common sign and

first navamsa of moveable signs are vargottama. In that case would

you say they are weak or strong?

The example you have given is of deep sandhi. So no doubt it is

weak. Do you think it is the last degree and first degree of a sign

that forms the sandhi ? BTW, can you give me the exact position of

Kirkaldy?

My software is probably not supporting it because I am getting 24*

of Pisces. Must be due to the wrong long. & lat. values.

I have tried the data again and now am getting 2* Aries as the

ascendant.

Please can someone confirm.

Balarishta is very apparent in this chart. Moon is closely

associated with retrograde Saturn and is aspected by Mars.

Well, Defouw & Svoboda say "..the strength of a vargottama graha will

not be greatly enhanced if that rashi is it's place of debilitation"

(LOL p112), and I've found this to be true.

I'd say strong due to vargottama (unless also neecha), and if in the

first/last degree they will also be weak and difficult to predict.

Patrice has a good take on sandhi planets. Care to comment Patrice?

Sorry, I misspelled the place. It should be Kirkcaldy, 3W10', 56N7',

Zone 0.

Yes, well spotted. Moon close to Saturn and closely aspected by Mars

would weaken it, while also being in the exaltation sign, bright and

waxing. What a mix!

What's Balarishta? How's it constituted and what's the effect?

Balarishta gives a life span of less than eight years to children.

Though in Indian astrology it is also said that the child's first

4years are influenced by the purva punya of the mother, the next 4

years come under the influence of the father's purva punya and the 4

years after that is the child's purva punya.

So if death occurs in the first 4 years it is mainly due to bad

effects of mother's prva punya coming from previous births.

Barney,

Not only are Mars and Saturn aspecting Moon but they are also

aspecting each other.

Have you checked the starting dasa of birth?

The starting dasa is of Moon.

Isn't the picture amazingly clear?
