Wendy ji,

I was interested in knowing how to calculate Dasa - Bukti -

Antar and so forth.

Once, you told me that, before software came in to ease the

process, you used to calculate it manually.

I have software to calculate Dasa - Bukti - Antar. Can you teach

me how to calculate other levels?

BTW, do you use any Dasa other than Vimshotarri? If so, what has

been your experience?

I was thinking of learning the manual process - and, if time and

my abilities permit, to write a small software program for the

purpose, so that I can learn the Vimshotarri system better.

Please give some example - my Mathametical abilities are

horrible! :-)

Dear Balaji,

As it's already getting quite late here (about to put this computer

to bed), I'll just point you to Parashara Vol ll, Ch.61 through to

63 (for now). The methods of calculation are all there...this is

where I learnt and it's not difficult, all you really need is a

calculator. However, I can give some examples tomorrow, when I'm not

half asleep...if needed. It's been ages since I've done this so I'm

probably a bit rusty.

Before I go, I'd just like to point something out if I may...perhaps

it's just a typo on your part, if so, just ignore the following :-)

You Wrote:

///I was interested in knowing how to calculate Dasa - Bukti -

Antar and so forth.///

1) Maha dasa (or dasa).

2) Antar dasa (or bhukti). Bhukti and antar mean the same -

sometimes also called vidasa.

3) Pratyantar dasa (not antar).

4) Sookshmantar dasa.

5) Prana dasa.

When I was calculating by hand I never went beyond pratyantar (PD) -

too time consuming! None-the-less the priciple is (basically) the

same for all.

///BTW, do you use any Dasa other than Vimshotarri? If so, what has

been your experience?///

No! I learnt from Parashara (suplimented by Maharishi) and have felt

no need to disagree with the following statements in Parashara Ch.46

(Vol ll).

2-5. Maharishi Parashar replied. O Brahmin! Dashas are of many

kinds. AMONGST THEM VIMSHOTTARI IS THE MOST APPROPRIATE FOR THE

GENERAL POPULACE. But the other Dashas, followed in special cases,

are Astottari, Shodshottari, Dwadashottari, Panchottari, Shatabdik,

Chaturashiti-sama, Dwisaptati-sama, Shastihayani,

Shat-trimshat-sama. Our ancients have described these different

kinds of Dashas, based on Nakshatras.

12-14. Beginning from Kritika, the Lords of Dashas are Surya, Candr,

Mangal, Rahu, Guru, Sani, Budh, Ketu and Sukr in that order. Thus,

if the Nakshatras from Kritika to the Janm Nakshatr are divided by

nine, the remainder will signify the Lord of the commencing Dasha.

The remaining Dashas will be of the Grahas in the order, given

above. IN KALI YUGA THE NATURAL LIFE-SPAN OF A HUMAN BEING IS

GENERALLY TAKEN AS 120 YEARS, THEREFORE VIMSHOTTARI DASA IS

CONSIDERED THE MOST APPROPRIATE AND THE BEST OF ALL DASAS.

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy

Dear Balaji,

Oh Good! Just give me a day or two - I'm caught up with a dozen

different tasks at the moment, and I'll need to put them all aside

to focus on the dasa calculations. Like I said, it's been years

since I've done this, so I'll have to teach myself again...shouldn't

be too difficult, but it does need my full attention :-)

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy

Wendy ji,

I shall wait for your examples. Please take your own time, it is

not that urgent! :-)

Dear Wendyji,balaji and others,

I know how to calculate dasas and antardasas ...

I will write with examples tomorrow.

This way we can let Wendyji concentrate and write about other

aspects which we find esoteric and difficult to understand.

Best Regards

Dear Maya,

I have changed your settings to "No Mail" so you won't receive any

more mails in your mail box (except this one). This is something

members should take care of themselves - if you don't wish any

mails, it's quite simple to change your settings on .

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy
