Dear Wendy,

In your horoscope, the fifth is occupied by Mars, karaka for surgery. The

fifth Lord Venus is in 8th , the house of surgery; in square to Mars. The fifth

is for stomach. What is the impact of such a combination ?

Regards

JK

Dear JK,

Yes indeed you're correct. Surgical operations have played a big

part in my life. However the aspect of Mars on VE/SU in 8th (which

also indicates surgery) have suffered most from his influence...for

myself personally! Venus moolatrikona sign (Libra) governs abdomen,

belly, bladder, large intestine, buttocks etc; whilst Venus himself

governs kidneys and so forth, as does Leo who also governs the

physical heart.

Needless to say these are the areas that have come under the

surgeons knife...

But let's look at the impact Mars in 5th (aspecting 5th lord in 8th

house of accidents) has had on children. Early eighties(?) saw the

eldest son in hospital/rehab for 18 months following an horrific

motor vehicle accident; and earlier this year(?) the younger son had

an accident on his motorbike, resulting in a broken collarbone.

Yesterday he was involved in another accident whilst riding his bike

and is in hospital now with more broken bones (including his other

collarbone). So we see clearly the effect of Mars according to his

governance of accidents and surgery. And certainly there's no

denying his war-like nature resulting (often) in conflict with the

boys. But the conflict rises and dissipates whilst the love of

children (exalted Jupiter) remains always...this is the strongest

feature as my children are exalted in my chart and in my

heart...conflicts come and go but that remains :-))

A little word whilst I'm here regarding the upagrahas (Gulika

particularly) if I may. Everyone has Gulika somewhere in their chart

and everyone finds obstructions in some area of life...this applies

also to malefic lords; but they (primarily) represent obstructions

and don't supersede the results due to the major planets.

You might look at the chart of Ammachi who has Gulika in

5th...certainly she has been denied progeny but the significations

of 5th (mantras, spiritual practices etc) have not suffered nor been

denied. Bhagwan Rajneesh (Osho) had Gulika in 9th; Mahatma

Gandhi had Gulika in lagna conjunct lagna lord etc, etc..

You might like to study these charts.

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy

Correction--

>>Venus himself governs kidneys and so forth, as does Leo who also

>>governs the physical heart.<<

....that should read "as does Leo (Sun also governs the physical

heart)".

Trying to get done in a hurry here (and prone to mistakes) with my

computer giving endless hassles...don't know how long I'm going to

be able to stay online, I'm afraid. Have been trying to sort it out

for days and have finally come to the conclusion that the DSL unit

itself must be faulty? Keep losing my connection, and my mouse goes

berserk (everything corrects after a reboot). My server is not

having any problems so I figure it must be the DSL itself that's

playing up - who knows??

Darn computers - they drive you crazy :-(

Dear Wendy,

Many Thanks for your kind reply. In your experience, do you find Gulika's

presence in the fifth a detrimental factor for obtaining progeny ?

Regards

JK

Dear JK,

Truthfully I, like most astrologers, rarely consider the upagrahas

when delineating a horoscope, so I can't really give you an answer

based on personal experience. However, Parashara gives us a

guideline for the effects of Gulika etc. in various houses. In 5th

it's said that the native will not be praiseworthy, be poor,

short-lived, spiteful and mean. In the notes (BPHS) we're told that

the native's virility or progenic ability will be significantly

affected by Gulika occupying the house of progeny...

However, as I said in an earlier mail, the effects due to the

upagrahas will be determined by their dispositor. In Ammachi's chart

(for instance) 5th lord, exalted in lagna, is aspected by Jupiter in

9th. Children signifies all children (including disciples), and, as

we know, Ammachi has many disciples. We also know that she is the

perfect embodiment of "motherhood", known for her great compassion

etc..

The point is that the guidelines (given by the sages) for the

position of any upagraha or indeed any major planet, are just

that...a guideline! One has to judge the chart as a whole. They say;

'no man is an island', likewise, 'no bhava is an island'...each is

influenced by many factors!

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy
