Hello Respected Members

Here are some guidelines for PRASHNA...

Below please see notes from my recent lecture workshop given in

London (www.bava.org)which I would like to share with you.

? When a Question is Born ?

Introduction

ƒÌJyotisha has three branches:

JATAKA (Natal)

MUHURTHA (Electional)

and

PRASHNA (Horary)

(¡§Pr-sh-n¡¨)

The term PRASHNA means a Question, a problem? In Western astrology

the familiar term is HORARY ~ meaning ¡§of the hour¡¨. The prashna

addressed to a Daivajna (one who is able to divine the will of God) -

i.e. astrologer - may be about the Past, the Present or the Future

relating to an individual, family, nation or any other mundane

affair.

ƒÌ Prashna Jyotisha = ¡§Birth of an Idea¡¨

„« Means interpreting about events on the basis of the

horoscope cast for the exact time a query is put. (So, no error

possible as in a doubtful natal chart.) Or as we shall see later,

predicting on the basis of some other Jyotisha divining technique.

„« This branch of astrology is very popular and appealing

because it can answer the question immediately, without the need for

the natal horoscope of the inquirer (Prashta). Important, practical

problems of daily life of average people can be addressed Frequently

used technique in ancient times, when birth times were not

accurately recorded, or even known by most people.

„« In the past eras India had a succession of eminent Jyotishis

who could tell with precision the exact details of an article hidden

in the querist¡¦s fist (Mushti Prashnam);

„« Or read as from an ¡§open book¡¨, the thoughts in the

querist¡¦s mind (Chinta Prashnam);

„« Or reveal the full details connected with the loss or theft

of an article (Nashta Prashnam).

Our ancient Rishis handed down to us a comprehensive and elaborate

work on horary astrology. A variety of techniques and systems are

available for the modern- day astrologer to choose from. Depending

on the Jyotishi¡¦s own Prakruti (innate nature) he/she can find (or

develop) the technique that best works for him/her available from

the Prashna Shastras.ƒnƒÌ

Some Rules and General Conditions

ƒÌ

ľ A specific question should ONLY be asked when the native is

deeply interested in, or seriously concerned about the outcome of

the subject-matter of the question. A query is usually made when the

querent¡¦s mind is tense like a pregnant woman about to deliver a

baby ¡V (Generally, the time when the problem is revealed to the

astrologer is treated as the birth time of his problem, though the

said problem was conceived in the past.)

ľ Usually persons facing difficulties in life due to e.g.

financial setbacks, marital discord, illness, disputes, lost

possessions etc., seek the help of astrologers. Such persons are

full of thoughts of worry, confusion, and anxiety. It is only when

influenced by one¡¦s past good or bad Karma, the suffering individual

approaches the astrologer. Hence the horary findings will agree with

the person¡¦s natal horoscope.

ƒæ Only humble requests from ¡§good¡¨ people deserve an answer

(i.e. don¡¦t help the Mafia find stolen drugs!). No prediction should

be offered unasked for (i.e. astrologer must not show-off!), nor

should a person who wishes to ¡§test¡¨ the astrologer deserve to be

responded to. Improper or ¡§fun¡¨ questions should be avoided (e.g.

about gambling, betting, avoiding the law, etc..)

ľ The Jyotishi must be appropriately qualified with thorough

knowledge of all astrological principals: learned, experienced, and

leading a clean, godly life; initiated by his guru and blessed by

his Ishta-Devata (personal favourite deity).

ľ The Avastha or state (i.e. mood and physical condition) of

the Jyotishi is an important factor, as well as is the

place/environment where the question is asked ¡V These conditions

have immense implications and significance on the prashna prediction.

ľ Traditionally Prashna is usually conducted during the

morning after bathing, when the mind is fresh and cool ¡V However, in

practice it may be resorted to at any time of urgent need.

ľ Prashna generally needs two conscious minds, and is not

normally successful if you do your own horary; or if the Prashta

does it routinely. The astrologer must have the right energy and

focus if asking the question for himself.

ľ The Prashna horoscope will only address the ONE issue, the

one question, and no other matters should be read from the same

chart for the same person. But, two or more querents can put their

queries at the same time.

ľ Although it is possible for an experienced astrologer to

answer multiple questions by applying different techniques, it is

better for the beginner to just answering one. Too many questions

from the anxious native will not give a clear indication of the

outcome, and will confuse both the querent and the Jyotishi! This is

comparable to a case of multiple births where chances of survival of

all the babies born are feeble.

ľ The style, tone and number of words spoken by the Prashta

will reveal a lot, and so these factors must be noted well.

ľ The Prashta (questioner) must have faith in astrology and

the astrologer. THIS IS IMPORTANT. He should pray, focus his

thoughts and then with a pure mind put the question that is

bothering him most.

If the mind of the astrologer is steady and the person to whom the

future is read is humble and devout in temperament, then the reading

will be correct and the answer to all the queries will be invariable

good. If the astrologer is calm, if the querist frames his question

in the proper form and if anybody talks about it, or if he sees

anything connected with the topic, then the questioner will attain

his desired object. So says a great authority.
