Two issues that arise when creating a Prashna chart: WHAT TIME TO

DRAW THE CHART FOR and WHAT LOCATION TO USE? Draw the chart for the

time and place when and where the JYOTISHI RECEIVES the question/

email/ letter/ telephone. (Impregnation may be in Hawaii, but

delivery may be in London! So make chart for ¡§birth in London¡¨).

 

 

a/ Applying Parashari/Jaimini principles

 

All general horoscopy principals as taught by Sage Parashara! The

Parashari method, enlarged by Prithyushas in his Shatapanchsika has

been the most widely practised technique by majority of Hindu

astrologers for many centuries. The prashna horoscope is read just

like a normal chart.

 

Special importance is given to the signification (Karakatwa) of the

Grahas and the Bhavas pertaining to the question.

 

When we combine the common and familiar, logical characteristics of

the Grahas together with the nature of the PRASHNA, we then begin to

formulate a detailed picture - The Karakatwas enable us to decode

the horoscope¡¦s hidden meanings.

 

Karakatwa SUMMARY:

 

Governance: Sun governs soul, Moon mind, Mars strength, Mercury

speech, Jupiter knowledge and happiness, Venus pleasure and Saturn

sorrow.

 

Planetary Cabinet: Sun and Moon are considered Royal Planets. Mars

is the Army Chief and Mercury the prince. Jupiter and Venus are

Ministers whereas Saturn is the servant; Rahu and Ketu are soldiers

of the army.

 

Basic nature: Moon (waxing), Mercury, Jupiter and Venus are

basically benefic. Sun, Moon (waning), Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu

are malefic by nature. Functional nature will depend on the houses

rued by them, depending on the Lagna.

 

Sex of Planets: Sun, Mars and Jupiter are considered Male. Moon and

Venus are Female, whereas Saturn and Mercury are considered Neutral.

 

Abodes: Sun signifies places of worship. Moon watery places like

lakes, rivers. Mars fire places like kitchen/factory, Mercury sports

grounds/markets. Jupiter treasures/banks, and Venus signifies places

of pleasures like bedroom/hotels, and Saturn filthy places/rubbish

tips.

 

Gunas: Sun, Moon and Jupiter have Satwik gunas, Mars and Venus have

Rajsik gunas and Mercury and Saturn have Tamasik gunas. E.G. how is

my business partner? Strength of planets in a prashna chart will

reflect the qualities of the person.

 

Planetary Castes: Jupiter and Venus are Brahmins, Sun and Mars are

Kshatriya, Moon and Mercury are Vaishya and Saturn belongs to Shudra

Caste. Rahu+Ketu outcastes.

 

Tatva: Planets are also associated with different tatvas/elements.

Sun and Mars signify Agni, Moon and Venus Jala, Mercury Bhumi or

earth, Jupiter Sky/ether and Saturn Vayu.

 

Complexion: Different planets symbolize different colors. Sun

symbolizes ¡§Raktashyama¡¨ i.e. red with black or Dark tint, Mars ¡§

Kujo rakto¡¨ i.e. blood red, Moon fair complexion, Mercury green,

Jupiter orangey-brown yellow, Venus variegated or white; Saturn dark

blue, Rahu black and Ketu variegated/multi-coloured.

 

Physical Characteristics: Natives with Sun¡¦s influence on Lagna will

be squarish and limited hair. Moon will have round face, beautiful

eyes, and curly and short hair. Mars will have strong physique, red

eyes and thin shining hair. Mercury will have an attractive

physique. Jupiter will have large body, broad chest and big belly,

honey eyes and hair. Venus has charming features, long hands,

symmetrical limbs, beautiful, brilliant and broad eyes and curly

hair. Saturn represents emaciated and long body, prominent veins,

long nails, blackish color, depressed eyes and coarse hair.

 

Personality: Sun¡¦s influence on personality makes the native manly,

intelligent, sharp mind and clean habits. Moon makes a person fickle

minded and lustful. Mars is cruel, stands for strength, courage,

stamina and passion. Mercury is diplomatic, humorous and learned.

Jupiter is knowledge and happiness, Venus is joyous, beautiful,

poetic and intelligent and Saturn is lazy and lame, but if strong it

can be mystic and philosophical.

 

Speech/ Voice: Sun signifies Majestic voice, Moon sweet and soft,

Mars forceful and clear, Mercury sweet, witty and Jupiter loud and

clear.

 

Body Ingredients: Sun controls Bones, Moon blood, Mars Marrow,

Mercury skin, Jupiter fat, Venus semen and Saturn muscles. Any

affliction of a planet may reflect in corresponding affliction on

the native¡¦s body.

 

Body Components: Sun and Mars represent Pitta, Jupiter and Venus

Kapha, Moon and Saturn Vatta and Mercury represents all three.

Afflictions would indicate the kind of illness and may help in

recommending remedies.

 

Periods: Planets are also associated with different periods. Saturn

with Varsha, Sun with Ayna (half year), Mercury with Ritu (2

months), Jupiter Masa (month), Venus Paksha (15 days), Mars a day,

Moon muhurta (48 minutes) and also Kshana (second), Rahu 8 months

and Ketu 3 months. These periods are used to predict fructifications

of events within a time span.

 

Seasons: There are six seasons in a year each of 2 months:. Venus

Vasant (spring, go out, travel and enjoy). Sun and Mars are

associated with Grishma (summer, hot fierce quick activity). Moon

with Varsha (rainy, calm, cool, balanced good work). Mercury Sharad

(preparing for winter, new times, saving, storing harvest). Jupiter

Hemant (getting the fruits of labour, joyous work) and Saturn with

Shishira (winter, hard work in short-bursts, then rest long).

 

Incarnations: Rama is the incarnation of Sun, Krishna of Moon,

Narasimha of Mars, Buddha of Mercury, Vamana of Jupiter, Parshurama

that of Venus, Koorma of Saturn, Varaha of Rahu and Matsya that of

Ketu.

 

Marana-Karka Sthana

 

Bhavas in which the grahas lose their Karakatwa strength. Following

are the Marna-Karka Sthanas for various planets. Planets in MKS will

affect the significations of houses owned by them adversely during

their dasha.

Apply the following mentioned principals and study thoroughly:

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Moon is the seed, Lagna is the flower, Navamsa Lagna the fruit

and the Bhava representing the subject-matter is the taste of the

fruit. Hence it is of utmost importance to see that the Moon is not

afflicted; otherwise there will be no sweet fruit to taste!

 

 

The judgement should be sound, methodical and a total synthesis of

the horoscope under scrutiny:

„« Look at MOON placement, condition, its bhava lordship and

its star lord - very important. It is the mana or MIND of the

querent and will be reflected accurately in the horoscope if prashna

is serious! Position of moon will indicate the agonies the native is

suffering and worried about.

 

„« The Lagna and Lagnesh rule the person asking the question

and the question itself. First concentrate on the Lagna and Lagnesh,

and then house concerned around which revolves the question (e.g.

2nd for money) and its lord (Karyesh).

 

„« Is the rising sign Chara (moveable, activity, restless),

Sthira (fixed, stable, persistence) or Dwishabhava (dual, wavering

mind, confused)? Elements of signs (fiery, earthy, airy, watery)?

How is it rising: Prishtodaya(-)Ar,Ta,Cn,Sg,Ca \ Sheershodaya(+)

Ge,Le,Vi,Li,Sc,Aq, or Ubhayodaya(+/-)Pi?

 

„« Are there benefics or malefics in Kendras, Trikonas,

Dushsthanas, and Upachayas? And see their strengths

(exalted/debilitated/combust)?

 

„« Look at Aspects (malefic or benefic) on Bhava concerned,

Lagna, Lagnesh, Moon, and their Dispositors.

 

„« Consider the Raja-Yogas, Arishta-Yogas, Dhana-Yogas, etc..

See the Avasthas of all concerned planets especially Moon and

Lagnesh.

 

„« Look for Yoga-Karakas/ Atmakaraka/ Badhaka/ and the relevant

Jaimini Chara Karaka and Sthira Karaka placement, aspects etc..

 

„« Strong 9th house/lord and 11th house/lord with benefic

aspects etc., usually promises successful developments and

fulfilment of desires.

 

„« Also examine the Navamsha for final ¡§clinching¡¨, as this

shows the real and subtle picture and will help you make your

decision. (You could also go much deeper and use all other relevant

Varga charts e.g. D-10, D-7,)

 

„« Jaimini uses other special yogas, chara karakas, upa-grahas

(gulika, mandi..) and various types of dashas.

 

„« For TIMING use dashas/bhuktis, change from retrograde to

direct and vice-versa, and special planetary periods (e.g. Sun = 6

months, Moon = 48 minutes muhurta, Mars = 1 day, Jupiter = 1 month,

Saturn = 1 year)

 

 

Some general principals/ indicators

 

Lagna devoid of lagnesh aspect

Lagna devoid of benefic aspect 25% chance of succeeding objective,

or getting positive result

Lagnesh unafflicted and aspected by /associated with one benefic.

50% chance of succeeding objective, or getting positive

result

More than one benefic aspects lagna and/or lagnesh 75%(?)

chance of succeeding objective, or getting positive result

Waxing Moon unafflicted, Lagnesh unafflicted, Lagna aspected by its

lord and benefics 100%(?) chance of succeeding objective, or

getting positive result

Powerful malefic(s) in 7th house, and benefic in lagna 0%(?) chance

of success - the querent will meet with defeat, opposite party will

win.

 

 

NOTE:

 

**Many times you will find that the Lagna, or Moon sign or moon

nakshatra at time of question reflects strongly the querent¡¦s actual

birth chart!

 

**If question about third party e.g. "Will my son get a job" ¡V the

Prasna chart should be rotated in this case making the 5th the new

Lagna.

 

**There is a system of Daivajna Neelakanth for answering several

questions at the same time: 1st? use rising Lagna; 2nd? Moon lagna;

3rd? Sun sign; 4th? from Jupiter¡K

 

**Prashna chart normally valid for 1 year. Then the same question

may be asked again?

and for any reason birth chart is not accessible and avaible,in ancient times

prasna technique was resorted

Dear Krishnan,

 

This is precisely the point I've been trying to make. I don't deny

Prashna is a valuable technique under the right circumstances but

was it ever intended to (consistently) use prashna when advice has

been sought by a native giving his/her correct birth chart...

Dear Krishnanji

 

I have been practicing and specialising in Prashna techniques for

quite some years and hence was invited to give workshop on this

subject. It is a very useful technique when you do not have accurate

birth data, or the question is very specific like WHEN WILL MY LOST

CHEQUE IN THE POST TURN UP? Just by chaqnce i came across this Group

yesterday and today when I read the topic on this board I thought I

Late BVRaman is categorical to say in his"Predictive Astrology".Hora Sastra

otherwise Prashna Sastry is capable of revealing the position of palnets in the

celestial whether needs of persons for day to day purpose can be fulfilled and

also time is ripe or not.That is how in olden days Kings used services of

Pandits to find the position of palnets with reference to the wish.This Hora

Sastra does not need birth time.The birth time is the birth time of the

wish/desire.The prinicples of Astrology can solve the riddle.It can be useful

for every day purpose.we can use prasna with no limitations please.

You're perfectly free to favour prashna over birth chart if this is

the way you wish to do things - this is your choice (reflected in

your own horoscope). Everyone has their own way of practicing

astrology and there are even those, as we know, who say the vargas

are superior to Janma Kundali (for predictions) - this is people's

choice!

 

However I would be remiss if I didn't point out (to members) that,

when birth chart is available, it should be the first preference.

CONVEYING THE SIGNIFICANCE ATTCHED TO Prashna Chart and the purpose of Hora

Sastra.

Let me reaffirm I am stickler to conventional wisdom.I mean about birth Chart
