Wendy ji,

While analyzing my dad's chart, you said:

<<<I've been many years on these (jyotish) lists and for many

years have had people writing to me privately wanting remedies

to change their circumstances. But circumstances, fate/destiny

cannot be changed...the only thing that can be changed is how we

react to our circumstances...and surely jyotish itself is the

greatest tool for that!>>>

I completely agree with you! If I remember a quote from an

English translation of the Hitopadesha, "I have seen the sun and

the moon get eaten by deamons. I have seen ignomy heaped upon

the intelligent and praise upon the dullwitted and from this I

have divined that alas, Fate is all powerful."

I was reminded of this on Thursday, 22 Sep, 2005. On this day, I

got pickpocketed while travelling in a bus to the airport to

pick up my sister, who was coming in from Bombay. Normally, I

would have driven to the airport from the office in my bike.

But, my dad got discharged on that day and I left from home

instead of from the office. I thought, since I will take a taxi

from the airport to my home, why drive in a bike to the airport?

Reasoning thus, I waited for an autorikshaw, a 3-wheeler "taxi"

popular in India. I waited for a while and three autos passed

me, all occupied. Tired of waiting, I got into a bus - and

somebody pickpocketed me.

I think that it was destinied. If my dad had not got discharged,

I would have been on my bike and the wallet would have been

saved. If I had got an autorikshaw, I would have saved my wallet

too! But, the fates were against me on that day, and since I was

destinied to lose my purse, well, I lost it!

Of course, let us not blame Fate too much. Fate is neutral and

dependent upon our past karmas. I do not blame Fate for losing

my purse because the same Fate that caused it also elevated me

once by enabling me, with God's grace, to write a book!

Astrologically, the day Thursday is bad for me because of Guru's

position in my chart. Guru is in the 8th, which concerns losses,

and this house is now aspected by Gochara Sani in Janma Rasi, a

period of losses. Fortunately, this happened just before I

arrived at the airport, and I stood outside, not even havng the

30 rupees that would take me inside!

It was a humiliating moment for me, to stand there, without a

penny in my pocket. Sani, the great humbler, was at work!

Fortunately, the pain was minimized. I called my bank and got my

ATM/debit card deactivated. I lost only around Rs 350. I have to

get a new driver's licence, but that it all. Apparently,

Chandra, as lord of 2nd in 2nd, has minimized my losses.

It is also telling that this happened in the last Thursday

before Guru's transit to Tula on Sep 27/28 as per Lahiri

Ayanamsa!

Of course, sometimes, the losses that Fate deals us are good in

the long run. On 30 Dec 1997, I had a terrible road accident.

But, there was no permanent loss, and in fact, this accident

made me very spiritual because it happened in Budha Dasa - Sukra

Bukti - Rahu Antar. Together, Lagnadipati, 5th lord, and 9th

lord (Sani's Moolatrikona falls in 9th and "Sani Vad Rahu"

applies as always) saw to that.

Rahu gave me a nice scar on my left cheek. You Christians have

something called the "Mark of Cain" right? Well, some friends

have told me to get plastic surgery for my scar, but I refused.

To me, it is the "Mark of Rahu," the divine deamon, who rules

Swati, the star of Lord Narasimha, and the Ucchatva position of

my 9th lord Sani. It is a blessing, not a curse. I pray that

this scar remains on my face until the day I die, so that, every

time I shave, I am reminded of God's grace.

I was recently reading Narasimha Purana when my dad was

hospitalized. In that book, Druva tells his mother that, until

then, he had one father and one mother. But, since realizing

Vishnu, he realized that He alone is one's father and mother.

This gave me solace because I knew that He would always be with

me. We all know of how Druva became the pole star by Vishnu's

grace.

Losses strengthen us by showing us that we can live through bad

times too. And loss of EVERYTHING is needed to attain Moksha. No

wonder the 12th house rules Moksha!

Dear Balaji,

Well said :-))

Whilst I'm here I should advise that my time (on the list) will be

limited for the next day or two...hopefully by Thursday I should be

back in the swing of things again.

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy

Dear Balaji,

I would like to thank you to take the time out to write

this piece of enlightening text. Indeed, when we are in the middle of

a mess, our feelings are different from, when we look back and join

the pieces of the unfolding puzzle called "life".

At times I wonder whether the desire for moksha is a pardoxical

situation. Moksha is attained with absence of desire, yet one

cannot work towards it, unless there is a desire. :-)
