Dear All,

I feel that formal education as in terms of schooling

(graduation/postgraduation per say) is signified by

the 5th house and its lord, where as spiritual

initiation and education is signified by the 9th lord.

The planets for spiritual education are guru as well

as saturn.

Also I have seen quite a few horoscopes with Sun and

mercury in the 11th ( 7th aspect on the 5th)giving

education in the pure science subjects like - physics

or Chemistry.

Please let me know your views as well.

I new of a spiritual lady -kalavati devi from

Karnataka region of Belgaum who had a very strong Sani

in the 9th. ( Unfortunately I donot have the horoscope

as I am away from my house presently)

She left her house at a young age, after marriage and

kids and became a desciple of Sidharudh maharaj of

Hubli.

Best Regards

Dear All,

With the list relatively quiet at the moment and a

little free time

up my sleeve I made a quick visit to some of the

groups I

to and found a rather interesting discussion regarding

the

significator for teachers which I thought was worth

commenting on.

Someone said that Guru is signified by Jupiter as well

as the 9th

lord...and the response was thus: "It is traditional,

it is literal

(guru means teacher in sanskrit) but is it always true

in modern

experience?"

As I'm sure we know, Guru does indeed signify

Guru/teacher. However,

according to what I've been taught, there are two

houses that deal

specifically with education.

9th shows higher education (religious learning and so

forth) as well

as guru, (preceptor, teacher, mentor etc).

2nd house shows general or (perhaps) primary education

as well as

educators (teachers) in general.

Obviously then we'd consider both Guru/Jupiter (the

planet of

education/knowledge) and 2nd house for teachers in

general, whilst

Guru and 9th house would be considered for higher

teachers such as

Guru and so forth.

If members have other thoughts on this I'd be happy to

hear them...

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy

Dear Nilesh,

Certainly you're correct that 5th house governs intellect

(intelligence), learning, books etc., whilst 4th house is also

connected with education, showing one's ability to obtain a

degree...and so forth.

However, two things are common to 2nd and 9th in that they embody

oral transmission of knowledge (via a teacher)... Traditional

knowledge is (generally) passed down from Guru to disciple, as too

formal education is passed down to students via teachers...is this

not so?

As far as placement of SU/ME in 11th signifying education in

sciences, one would need to look at the chart proper before drawing

a conclusion. As an example, I have a family member with this

placement who is poorly educated (although very successful in other

ways).

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy

Dear friends,

The term "Guru" is very loosely used these days in general and in

Internet jyotish groups in particular. The person who imparts

knowledge is known as teacher.

A father imparting his knowledge to his progeny becomes teacher,

rather the first teacher. He first spells the Gayatri in the ear of

his progeny - hence becomes the teacher.

In other cases of Hindu Society, What is the knowledge of a father,

he could even be a carpenter or even be a barber or be a butcher.

Here comes the 9th house. (9th house is father - my intention is

not to create another controversy here).

Further, the knowledge or the education ( call it in any name )

starts from one's immediate family. Hence the 2nd house should be

considered for learning. Those who come from the family becomes the

teacher.

At the ripe age, a persons pursuing higher knowledge.... in the

real sense of knowledge... then comes the significator Jupiter who

signifies the knowledge and wisdom.....the possible logic would be

that he owns the 9th house and the 12th house in the natural zodiac

which represent the real sense of knowledge and the "known" attains

the final emancipation..... the 12th house.

Members may have different opionions.... this is my understanding....

Regards, C.S. Ravindramani.

PS: Just posted my thougts.... leaving the workplace.....

thanks ....the questions raised in the message has to be considered

carefully so far as the modern education is concerned....

Dear pdk kotak,

Yes you are right I am in Europe, Duesseldorf to be

precise.

You can send the chart.

Dear Wendyji and others,

While I was writing this the thought came to my mind

to write about the following,

I am Virgo lagna and the fact that Jupiter with ketu

(presently in Lagna and aspecting the 7th)has thrown

me away from family since Jan 05(7th lord placed in

3rd house).Though I amd my wife had decided that I

will not be going out of India for long term, ended up

taking this project

(my wife and daugter were here for a couple of months

from March).

I will be going back to India Oct End though the

earlier plans were to go back in Dec and the

coincidentally my family will join me again from India

in the 1st week Oct till mid Oct - I feel like

attributing this fact to the separation of ketu from

Jupiter end Sept and jupiter going to 2nd house(of

family) that they will be coming all the way from

India for 10days even though I will be joining them

back by end of Oct.

Dear Wendyji,

You are right that 3rd house is the house of

initiatives.

Actually I learnt the basics of astrology from my

maternal uncle who used to attribute 9th of spiritual

initiation - may be 3rd being the house opposite to

9th.

By the way I have jupiter (atmakaraka) and mercury

Initiatives certainly... But intiatory instruction (initiation) was

what I was referring to specifically :-)

Thank you for your birth details. I hope to take more than the

visitors leave. I do enjoy looking at the charts of our regular

PS: I might just add a little here (quickly) whilst I try to ignore

some irritable glances (because I'm still at the computer).

Perhaps we could say that initiation is akin to the union that takes

place during a marriage ceremony. In much the same way we're united

with our Guru (7th from 3rd) during the initiation puja...

2nd house shows general or (perhaps) primary education

as well as

educators (teachers) in general.

Obviously then we'd consider both Guru/Jupiter (the

planet of

education/knowledge) and 2nd house for teachers in

general, whilst

Guru and 9th house would be considered for higher

teachers such as

Guru and so forth.

If members have other thoughts on this I'd be happy to

hear them...

Best Wishes,

Mrs. Wendy
