Guest guest
Me neither Babu. All self taught. Lots of reading from a variety of sources; following lots of forum discussions and examples that I hand write out and diagram. And, of course lots of practical charts for review and analysis. I have only one software program too and I need to expand for variety of techniques. I have a long way to go. Meaning, I understand the general breakdown of a chart and the general philosophy of the BPHS of the Indian astrology and religion. But, to put all the yogas and special significances into practice are difficult as I try to self teach myself the specific Sanskrit meaning for each delineation. Yes, I agree. Wendy is an excellent erudite vedic astrologer. She and her well laid out website are very helpful and educational. Her own postings are very detailed and thorough. I wish I had a personal teacher like her. Also, her decorum speaks volumes of her intelligence, grace and character. When you're ready, the next step (like I need to do) is to find a correspondence course for certification and a guru you can trust that is well seasoned and knowledgeable in the ART of interpretation; beyond the correct mundane calculations for synthesis. In the meantime, I ask a lot of questions and help in direction of proper breakdown of chart. Along with a deep appreciation in the sincerity of patience from others. Best, Debra .. Guest guest
Dear Debra, >>When you're ready, the next step (like I need to do) is to find a >>correspondence course for certification and a guru you can trust >>that is well seasoned and knowledgeable in the ART of >>interpretation; beyond the correct mundane calculations for >>synthesis.<< If I may respond to this :-) I do know of several well-known correspondence courses which offer certification...I have one sitting on my wall (along with a certificate for Western astrology). And I have to say that my driving motive (for these certificates) was Ego. The jyotish course I took around 7 years ago I could have recommended (at that time) but it's changed over the years and, like most courses offered today, it's a mish-mash of Jaimini and Parashara. I already had studied Jyotish for around 11 yrs before I took the course so (naturally) the material was known to me. I quickly typed out 1-2 lessons a day and finished the whole course in less than three weeks. So the certificate sits on the wall and I really don't know what purpose it serves other than taking up wall space and puffing up my ego at a time when it needed some puffing up :-)))) I also took the Maharishi Jyotish course prior to the one mentioned. It was frightfully expensive and I felt I'd wasted so much money as (again) I never learnt anything I didn't already know. As far as I know that course is no longer available? PS: I've had contact with people who've gained certification from BAVA, ACVA and so forth and really I have to say (without prejudice) that their understanding of jyotish leaves a lot to be desired. Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com
Guest guest
Dear Wendy, All good to know. Thanks for your honesty. What do you feel is the next best step in knowledge and proving to others one is not a quack! Guest guest
Dear Debra, >>All good to know. Thanks for your honesty. What do you feel is >>the next best step in knowledge and proving to others one is not a >>quack!<< My advice is to just keep learning as you are. When the time is right you'll find the right course (if this is what's meant for you). Regarding your desire to prove to others that you're not a quack, there is great truth in the following (well-worn) phrase: "For those who believe no proof is necessary; For those who disbelieve no proof is possible." Neither the certificates hanging on my wall nor the fact that JyotishVidya once had over 700 members did anything to convince my disbelieving family (apart from my husband) that jyotish is anything other than quackery. Even correct predictions were like water off a duck's back... I don't bother anymore, you cannot change someone's belief system and prejudice is ingrained in this decadent society. I cannot convince anyone in the value of prayer if they're opposed to it, and I cannot convince anyone of the truth of jyotish if they're opposed to it. Of course I can understand the desire for certification if you plan to establish a jyotish practice, after all those who come will already have some level of belief, otherwise why would they come, and a certificate showing your qualification would be reassuring to them. All I've been trying to say is that a certificate (of itself) does not make one a good astrologer... Guest guest
Dear Wendy, Wise counselor of sage wisdom. Your words speak so accurately and your intent of belief is very supportive and reassuring. On a private note; whether I can actualize my sincere intent is another story of personal concern. The effort though hasn't been shelved as of yet. In the meantime, I will continue to keep learning as I have. Your advice is enlightening for others as well. Thanks, Deb Wendy Vasicek <wenvas wrote: Dear Debra, >>All good to know. Thanks for your honesty.
