Guest guest
Hi all, I am a new member of this group, Seetha.K. And I have very little idea of vedic astrology. Other than having heard of terms like lagna, houses, lords of houses, rahu, ketu and the like, I have not yet done a systematic study of vedic astrology. So it would be nice if someone could recommend beginners book on astrology. Also, I would like to understand the underlying logic of astrology, so for eg. if someone says that there are 27 nakshatras, I would like to know why there isnt a 28th one..and when we say that a person is born has a certain nakshatra, what does it mean..where are these constellations/stars? I am on the look out for web resources and/or books to learn astrology from scratch. It may sound too basic for most members in the group because I find from the discussions that go on that the members already have a fair knowledge of astrology. Regards, Seetha
Guest guest
Hi Seetha, Happy New year. I like the site, yournetastrologer.com jupitersweb.com astroview.com there's a book here on the basics .. Some say there are 28 nakshatras, they are part of the Sun's constellations but in smaller sections of 13 1/2 degrees each..Sally seetha_krish wrote: > > Hi all, > > I am a new member of this group, Seetha.K. Guest guest
Seetha, There is a book by B V Raman, Astrology for Beginners which IMHO will give you a good start. Please look inline for the answers to the questions that you had asked. - Harsh --- seetha_krish <seetha_krish wrote: > Hi all, > > I am a new member of this group, Seetha.K. This is more related with astronomy than with astrology. Each nakshatra is said to be 13 1/2 degrees, since there is a maximum of 360 degs, you have only 27 nakshatras. Each nakshatras is then divided into 4 paads. So each zodiac has 2 whole nakshatras and 1 paad of another nakshatras. > and when we say that > a person is born > has a certain nakshatra, what does it mean..where > are these > constellations/stars? This basically means the position of the moon in that nakshatras. These constellations/stars are actually visible to the naked eye, and are in their respective zodiac signs. > I am on the look out for web resources and/or books > to learn > astrology > from scratch. > > It may sound too basic for most members in the group > because I find > from the discussions that go on that the members > already have a fair > knowledge of astrology. > > Regards, > Seetha Send your FREE holiday greetings online! http://greetings. Guest guest
Here's another book considered one of the best, it's from a westerner, it makes it easy to learn simply.. Sally "It came out a couple of years ago, called Beneath a Vedic Sky by William Levacy published by Hay House. It's a cook book format about all aspects of vedic astrology and contains an extensive section on the nakshatras. I didn't really like the book at first because it didn't contain a single horoscope in the whole damn thing! It was all house delineations, etc. And yet I now realize it's really a great book to have. Probably the best thing about it is that it gives favourable and unfavourable readings for every placement. That's a big departure from the usual gloom and doom that usually accompanies "bad" placements such as Venus in the 6th or Saturn in the 7th or what have you. All placements can have positive or negative manifestations depending on the strength of the house or planet involved. I can't recommend it enough."
