On remedies, and karma

Namaskar,

I suppose that most people (understandably) ask for remedies in order

to lessen suffering that they may be going through – be it physical

or emotional/mental. Now, if I understand things correctly (which I

may not, so I'm ready to be corrected), that suffering, at its root,

is the result of past actions.

So my question is this. In such cases do the remedies:

a) absolve that karma so it's results never have to be endured? This

doesn't seem right to me, since it would mean overriding the law of

cause and effect, the law of karma.

b) delay/reduce the intensity of the "karmic debt" that is being

repayed (i.e., spread it over a longer period, perhaps into future

lifetimes)

or c) do nothing to affect what happens to us, but simply help alter

our approach towards what's taking place.

Or something which I haven't thought of all together?

I'd be grateful for any inputs on this.

Thank you,

Samir

Dear Samir,

Look at it this way, a horoscope haas certain potential. One can

realize its full potential by proper action at proper time. Remedies if

right help one to correct one's reaction under stress, which is the

most important of action capable of making one realize his/her

potential. So proper remedies prepares one at the level of mind, which

can lessen the bad effects or increase good effects of such actions.

Dear Chandrashekharji, Namaskar,

Thank you for your reply – it helped clarify things. Please allow me

to probe a little further on this.

You say that a horoscope has a certain potential – this could be in

one of two directions – spiritual or material. Now, I believe that

the spiritual potential is the only true potential, and I can see how

the remedies might work in this respect – effectively by bringing the

mind in line with the soul.

However, I know that people also sometimes use astrological remedies

in an attempt to make material gains – wealth for example. So the

question is, can this work, and how? And if it does work, do we not

risk hampering spiritual development as a result?

A separate question regarding maximising spiritual potential… can it

be achieved by the conscious effort of will, without the use of

subconscious conditioning?

Thank you,

Samir
