Guest guest
The interpretation Maharshi Parashara's (very similar to Jaimini) sloka in BPHS about calculating the Upapada is somewhat confusing. Maharshi said Upapada is the "anuchara" or the house following the Ascendant bhava at birth. Normally it means the 12-th bhava because that is what is "following" the first bhava. But in the commentaries on Jaimini, e.g. Chaukhamb Hindi Edition, we find that for odd sign rising, 12-th house is considered upapada but for even sign rising, 2-nd house is considered upapada. Can any learned astrologer/acharya explain this? This information I received from Vedic Book Shelf's translation material.
