Guest guest
Dear Michal, How are you doing? Please find my answers to your questions below: (1) is virgo the sign that rules hands? does mars there give someone who uses their hands a lot? Ans: Virgo is denoted by the symbol of a virgin...the nakshatra Hasta placed in Virgo has the hand as the symbol, hinting at the connection to palmistry/astrology etc. Like for example, I have Sun/Venus in Hasta nakshatra and I am learning Jyotish since 2 years. I am not sure how you relate the effects of Mars placed in Virgo to the symbol but one possible way of explanation is that Virgo rules prithvi or earthy tatva. Given that Mars is the karaka for technical knowledge, the effect of Mars in Virgo could be that the person is well-trained in the technical sciences and hence 'uses their hands a lot' (2) since Libra is the colour black, and the sun rules cats, does this have anything to do with the superstition about black cats, since the sun is debilitated there? Ans: You have a good question here however I would not connect it solely to black cats; As Sanjay demonstrated during the conference, any cat crossing the path is considered inauspicious. I thought that Ketu was the karaka for cats...perhaps other learned persons can clarify if there is any semblance of connection between Libra and black cats. (3) I have recently heard that there is an observance called dasra, where saraswati is worshipped, and books are placed in front of her to give good tidings for study and related pursuits. is there any more information about that available? You refer to Dussera or Dasshera or Ayudha pooja which is the culmination of the navaratri festival. Saraswathi pooja day is being observed on Friday, Oct 22, whereby the normal procedure is to worship Saraswathi by placing your valued books in front of the picture for one day. The next day early in the morning, after prayer to Sarasvati, the same books are taken and read seriously. Note that the books placed before the altar should not be touched on the day of Saraswati Pooja day at all...some traditions interpret this to say that no reading of any sort should be done on that day! I hope the learned scholars will throw more light if I have omitted anything. Hope this helps.
