Guest guest
||| Hare Rama Krishna ||| Dear Vinita, Answers below… Thanks for the reference material, Nitin. For me the moon at time of birth was in Shukla paksha and the birth was at night (2.43 a.m.) but Rahu is 6th from moon rasi (cancer) in Saggitarius - so I suppose, if I have understood the point, that Ashtottari Dasa will not apply. [Via NK] Here is a translation from BPHS regarding Ashtottari Dasha: Ch. 46. Dashas of Grahas 1. Maitreya said. O Venerable Maharishi Parashar! You are omniscient. There is no subject, with which you are not conversant. Therefore now please favour me with guidance about the different kinds of Dashas (periods) of the various Grahas. 2-5. Maharishi Parashar replied. O Brahmin! Dashas are of many kinds. Amongst them Vimshottari is the most appropriate for the general populace. But the other Dashas, followed in special cases, are Astottari, Shodshottari, Dwadashottari, Panchottari, Shatabdik, Chaturashiti-sama, Dwisaptati-sama, Shastihayani, Shat-trimshat-sama. Our ancients have described these different kinds of Dashas, based on Nakshatras. Ashtottari 17-20. Maharishi Parashar said. O Brahmin, the sages have recommended the adoption of Ashtottari, when Rahu not being in Lagn, in any other Kendr, or Trikon to the Lord of the Lagn. From 4 Nakshatras from Ardra commences the Dasha of Sūrya, from 3 after that begins the Dasha of Candr, 4 after that will bring the Dasha of Mangal, 3 after that the Lord of Dasha will be Budh, 4 therefrom will have Śani, as the Dasha Lord, 3 thereafter the Lord will be Guru, Rahu will be the Lord of the Dasha 4 Nakshatras after that and then Śukr will take over the lordship of the Dasha 3 Nakshatras from the last one mentioned above. The Lord of the Dasha at birth will be determined by counting in this order up to the Janm Nakshatr. The duration of Ashtottari Dasha for Sūrya, Candr, Mangal, Budh, Śani, Guru, Rahu and Śukr are 6,= 15, 8, 17, 10, 19, 12 and 21 in that order. Thus in this Dasha system only 8 Grahas play the role of Dasha Lords, Ketu having been denied this privilege. I am including it below, should you choose to research it further: Ashtottari Dasa (controversial nakshatra dasa): Maha Dasas: Sun: 1949-12-03 (22:21:12) - 1955-12-04 (11:18:48) Moon: 1955-12-04 (11:18:48) - 1970-12-04 (7:27:46) Mars: 1970-12-04 (7:27:46) - 1978-12-04 (8:44:33) Merc: 1978-12-04 (8:44:33) - 1995-12-04 (17:25:21) Sat: 1995-12-04 (17:25:21) - 2005-12-04 (6:52:10) Jup: 2005-12-04 (6:52:10) - 2024-12-04 (3:53:15) Rah: 2024-12-04 (3:53:15) - 2036-12-04 (5:42:40) Ven: 2036-12-04 (5:42:40) - 2057-12-04 (14:55:51) What I wanted to understand at a deeper level was what are the areas in life that MD of moon will activate. There is some confusion about calculation of Bhava chart. Taking it from mid-point I think my moon is in 4th Bhava with Venus. But I am not very sure of this. Could you confirm it? If this is incorrect, it means that moon is in the 3rd House / Bhava and of course in its own sign. [Via NK] Regarding the Bhava chart, examine, 15 degrees on each side of the LAGNA degree, and then make a chart accordingly. In your case, based on the time given, one would see the following: My birth details are 3rd July 1954, 2.43 a.m., Lucknow House Start Cusp End Planets in it 1st 24 Ar 31' 57.06" 9 Ta 31' 57.06" 24 Ta 31' 57.06" As 2nd 24 Ta 31' 57.06" 9 Ge 31' 57.06" 24 Ge 31' 57.06" Su, Me, Ju, Ke 3rd 24 Ge 31' 57.06" 9 Cn 31' 57.06" 24 Cn 31' 57.06" Mo, Ur 4th 24 Cn 31' 57.06" 9 Le 31' 57.06" 24 Le 31' 57.06" Ve, Pl 5th 24 Le 31' 57.06" 9 Vi 31' 57.06" 24 Vi 31' 57.06" 6th 24 Vi 31' 57.06" 9 Li 31' 57.06" 24 Li 31' 57.06" Sa, Ne 7th 24 Li 31' 57.06" 9 Sc 31' 57.06" 24 Sc 31' 57.06" 8th 24 Sc 31' 57.06" 9 Sg 31' 57.06" 24 Sg 31' 57.06" Ma, Ra 9th 24 Sg 31' 57.06" 9 Cp 31' 57.06" 24 Cp 31' 57.06" 10th 24 Cp 31' 57.06" 9 Aq 31' 57.06" 24 Aq 31' 57.06" 11th 24 Aq 31' 57.06" 9 Pi 31' 57.06" 24 Pi 31' 57.06" 12th 24 Pi 31' 57.06" 9 Ar 31' 57.06" 24 Ar 31' 57.06" Moon remains in the 3rd, Venus moves one house over. Do you think this signifies interest in spiritual matters, specially in the AD of Mars and Rahu which are in the 8th House? These two planets are also in Trikona to the Karakamsha. [Via NK] Yes – all planets aspect the 7th therefrom (graha drishti). You could say the Moon has a desire for the 9th house affairs, which is a Dharma Trikona. If you look at the Arudha Lagna (AL), you will fine that the AntarDashas of Mars / Rahu openly support the AL, which also is in a Dharma trikona. Spirituality can also come from the 8th. Yes – there are 2 planets to the Karakamsa in Trines. What does it indicate? Have you had a chance to go over the lessons on the AtmaKaraka? http://www..org/learn/ck.htm I would be grateful if you could elaborate on some of these aspects for better understanding of the moon in my chart along with the effect different ADs will have during the moon MD. [Via NK] Try this – Put the Lagna as Cancer (your current MahaDasha), and read where the Antar Dasha planets are…. … you may see some form of short term obstacles, rivalry, illness, etc. You could also refer me to further links if you want. Guest guest
Dear Nitin, You've given a fairly detailed analysis. Thanks! But could I pick your brains a little more on this.Could you refer me to some links on the significance of moon in charts. Its a fairly influential "planet" isn't it, being closest to the earth and exercising some control / or lack of it on the mind. For me moon is in Cancer, its own house, but it is Tretiya in Shukla paksha which makes it somewhat weak. It is also conjunct with Venus. I want to explore the effect of the strenght and its conjunction with Venus in greater detail. To bring a third dimension in the picture, according to KP moon is in the star of Mercury, with sub-lord also Mercury and sub-sub lord Moon. What are the implications of this? Shall be grateful for more reading material.
