Guest guest
Satyam Bruyat Priyam Bruyat Dear , If 12th from Karakamsa (Navamsa placement of AK) is not occupied, lord of the house is seen to identify the Ishta Devta. For Venus it will be a female deity like Annapoorna, Lakshmi or Radha. Some prefer to check the aspects on 12th from Karakamsa too. I wonder if your devotion to lord Krishna is because of Ishta Devta being Radha! Learned members can comment on this. I am not aware of Mantras and would request Gurus to give you the same. Guest guest
Namaste Sarbaniji, Rampriya I do have remember in my scvhool days having read some where that annapoorna is another form of Parvathi the cohort of Lord Shiva. The reading goes something like this " Swayam Mahesha, sasuro Nagesha , Sakha dhanesha Tanayo Ganesha, Thathapi Bhikshatanameva Sambho Mata anna poorneshwari Nama" Hence I do feel that Annapoorna is better depicted by Moon. --- Sarbani Sarkar <sarbani wrote: > Dear Ramapriya, > > Prashna Marga depicts Annapurna as represented by > Venus. Guest guest
hamsassoham Dear Sarbani, Annapurna is Parvati (Shakti) as found in kashi. This is clearly taught in Shankaracharya's Annapuurnaa stotram, which describes her as gaurI, umA, sha~nkarI, vishveshvari, mAheshvarI, and kAshIpurAdhIshvarI. As such, I wonder why Venus represents Her. The last verse says: annapuurNe sadaapuurNe sha~nkarapraaNavallabhe . gyaanavairaagyasiddhyarthaM bhixaaM dehi cha paarvati . maataa tu paarvatii davii pitaa devo maheshvaraH . baandhavaaH shivabhaktaashca svadesho bhuvanatrayam .. Oh! Parvati! Annapurna! always full, the dear consort of Shankara, grant us alms for the sake of securing knowledge and detachment. Goddess parvati is our mother, Lord Maheshvara is our father, the devotees of Shiva are my relatives, and the three worlds are my own country. http://www.kamakoti.org/shlokas/kshlok13.htm - Sarbani Sarkar Tuesday, October 28, 2003 4:18 PM RE: [sJC: Achyuta Gurukul] ishta devata Dear Ramapriya, Prashna Marga depicts Annapurna as represented by Venus. Guest guest
Dear Ajit, Rao and others, The Moon represents the Divine Mother in her ubiquitous all pervading form. Mother Mary will also be represented by the Moon, so as all the forms of the Devi as we worship her. Anna means rice and by extension implicates food, and purna means full, 'filled with'...in this case bountiful. This bounty of food, of prosperity is Sri or Lakshmi. In Bengal for example Lakshmi is worshipped on the full moon immediately prior to the Diwali amavasya, where Lakshmi is adorned with paddy ears and the newly harvested rice is offered as the prime naivedyam. The timing has great agricultural significance. This is to show that Lakshmi or Sri is not only about monetary wealth, but the wealth of a bountiful home, which overflows with food, warmth and hospitality. A home that is well kept, bountiful and auspicious. This is Lakshmi, this is Sri. Annapurna depicts a part of this Sri. Women living in the house are considered the harbingers of this auspiciousness or Sri, so a home where a woman has been abused or insulted usually loses Sri's blessings. This Shrim shakti whether as Lakshmi or Annapurna is represented by Venus. This has nothing to do with the fact that Annapurna is Shiva's wife. What is important is that she represents the Shrim shakti. So Venus is the one representing her. Sanjayji adds that for reckoning ishta devata we should not take a female deity. Following Parasara, we should adopt Vishnu and Vishnu avatars for ishta devata, as ishta devata is the one who takes us towards moksha. Although Parasara suggests Parasuram as the ishta devata for Venus, most do not worship him. In that case, Hrishikesha should be worshipped as the ishta devata. Incidentally, Lakshmi always worshipped Narayana with the mantra, Klim Hrishikeshaya Namah.
